On Thursday (“it’s the worst day”) September 5, 2019, Dan Warner, 49, played his last note.
Dan’s life was a lyrical love letter to all who were fortunate enough to enter his orbit and bask in his undeniable brilliance.
He was quite sentimental and sensitive, a creatively thoughtful romantic.
He had such an easy warmth, a gregarious confidence that served him so well with his family, friends and cohorts. Dan was a fiercely loyal man, with a true north moral compass.
He also had a unique and clever way of being sincere and sarcastic at the same time.
His wit was sharp and perfectly balanced with an intelligent sense of humor, always so well-timed, yet unexpected. Many fell prey to his zingers and were honored to be his target. He was silly, playful, hilarious and his laugh was unencumbered.
His magical musicality came from another planet, it was rather otherworldly. He was impressive
and revered by so many, except for himself. Humility was such a huge part of his natural being.
Although oxymoronic, Dan was a DOWN TO EARTH ROCK STAR!
A rarity in the music biz, he truly enjoyed helping folks with their careers, in so many different ways.
He introduced and united people, forging opportunities both small and large. He openly shared his varied connections with anyone who asked; always went above and beyond…just because he could.
Mostly, Dan LOVED LARGE! His hugs enveloped you and filled you with his gentle, kind and generous spirit. In that moment, you felt loved. He was an exceptional huMAN being, who has left an enormous void, a silent chasm, and an unimaginable loss to those who had the wonderful pleasure and privilege to have known him. He unequivocally loved us all and definitely felt the love we had for him. He knew that for certain, and that’s a beautiful thing.
It’s strange, yet somehow fitting, that Dan’s big ol’ heart attacked him, as it was overflowing with so much passion and love, that it had no choice but to burst.
As the extraordinary, accomplished, and mega-talented DFW last said,
“GROOVE IS EVERYTHING”…

So many years ago at ASM was where we became friends. He used to play the opening riff to Rush's "Spirit of the Radio" over and over, up and down the hallway. I asked, "What is that?" He stopped, looked at me funny, told me who/what, and then played it slowly – teaching me about that 5th note at the end. Every time i hear that song, I always hear that 5th note, and thought of him. I will forever think of him while turning up the volume. Love and hugs to the entire family.

Although Dan and Kim would visit Leta downstairs from us, we never had the honor or pleasure of meeting Dan personally, but we could feel his presence and good vibes through Leta, as if we knew him and we are honored to have shared in his circle of friends and family. Several of his musician friends from Peru are also friends of mine. He managed to extended his love and musical talent through out the world, blessing everone on the way. Met Dan at the University of Miami. From the get go I realized how great of a musician he was, then soon after realized how even greater of a human being he was. He enlightened me about music business and I learned so much from him. God needed some more groove up there so he thought Dan should leave this astral plane a little sooner. Too soon. Keep groovin Dan. Never forget your smile.

I first met Dan at soundcheck in NYC in May of 2019 to deliver The Spirit of America Gibson Les Paul guitar to him that he would play the next day to open the new museum at the Statue of Liberty with Gloria and Emilio Estefan. Dan was so warm, friendly, and genuine during my brief time with him. Dan signed the guitar strap and his fingerprints still remain on the guitar's humbucker pickups and will remain there. My sincere heartfelt condolences to Dan's family… I am honored to have met this legendary grammy award winning guitarist.
