Anna (Volpe) Fava, 97, of Hallandale, Florida, passed into eternal life on 1 January 2018. Beloved wife of 69 years to Dominic Fava (deceased in 2012) died at her home in Hallandale, Florida. Her children were by her side.
Born in February of 1920 in Pratola Peligna, a small hill town in the Abruzzi region of Italy, the daughter of the late Emilio and Lucia D’Angelo Volpe, Anna arrived in the United States with her family at the age of 17. The family settled in Hartford, Ct. Anna was an excellent seamstress and worked at a local dress manufacturer where she became a quality supervisor within her first year of employment. While attending night school to learn English, Anna met Dominic Fava, of Sora, Italy, who would become her husband. They moved to Hollis, NY where they achieved the American Dream of owning their own business. They owned and operated Liverpool Carting Company. The business is still family owned and operated. Anna enjoyed cooking for her family, “mangia-mangia” and “try this” were among her favorite words. No one left Anna’s table hungry or her home without arms laden with food. Anna had a strong will and heart of gold.
The second of 6 children, Anna is pre-deceased by her five brothers, Frank, Damien, Americo, Anthony, and Salvatore Volpe. She leaves her son Louis Gino Fava and his wife Katherine of New York, and her daughter Lucy and husband John Schlageter of Hollywood, Florida. The love of Anna’s life were her five grandchildren: John L. Schlageter, Esq., KCHS, (wife Caitlin Olohan Schlageter), Washington, D.C., Ann L. Schlageter, Hollywood, Fl, Juliana, Alexandra and Christopher Fava, N.Y., NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Little Flower Catholic Church, Hollywood, Fl. on January 5, 2018, 11:00 AM, with entombment to immediately follow at Hollywood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Little Flower Catholic Church, 1805 Pierce Street, Hollywood, Florida 33020.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of Anna. The fond memories of when your mom and dad used to visit our family (D’Angelo’s) in Hartford Ct. across the street from Frank and Priscilla will live on forever. Cara Lucia & Gino, We are so sorry for this great loss of your Mamma, and memories abound from when we came from Italy and stayed with Zia Anna & Zio Domenico in Jamaica in the early 950’s before moving to Hartford next door to the Volpe’s who were our first cousins. Zia Annina as I called her was a happy soul, strong and fiercely proud of her family and her roots in Pratola Peligna in Abbruzzo. Our parents and the Volpe family had such wonderful times, great dinners and lots of happy memories that will always be with us. Her generation was the greatest, for they were resilient, and hard working, always to make life better for their children. We will pray for the repose of her great soul and know that her spirit continues to live among us. Viva sempre con noi !
