Dear Lenny, Suzy, Fred, and Chris,

I am so sad to know Aunt Martha is no longer “there”, but filled with joy at the thought of her being in heaven, reunited with all of her loved ones who have been waiting to welcome her home.

She was the only “Aunt” I saw much of growing up. Aunt Frances did not become closer to me til her later years. Aunt Martha was a delightful person, I do not have one bad memory of her. She was always loving, kind, and full of fun. She not only believed in her faith, she lived it. My only regret is that I was able to see her so seldom. I used to phone her once in a while, until she seemed to forget who I was!

When she celebrated her 80th birthday, I was anxious to come, but unable to do so. I enjoyed sending Anna in my place, as I knew she would be a good substitute, and would finally be able to meet the rest of her family. Anna fell in love with her great-aunt as I knew she would.

You will all be in my prayers over the weeks to come. May our sweet Jesus and his loving mother, Mary, hold you close in the circle of their love.

Dear Lenny, Suzy, Fred, and Chris,

In all the years I have known Martha, the memory that stands out most in my mind is the first time my mother and I first saw her; walking down the street across from our house with young Jane Arnold, Jessie’s little girl, in tow.

They made a lovely picture; Jane a beautiful child and Martha too, so beautiful – with a glow about her those lovely natural pink cheeks. We lost no time in telling my brother, Leonard, about her. Well – it wasn’t long before he was dating her, and he did not let her get away!

I’ve never had a sister, and Martha become so much more than an “in-law” to me. She had her own special way – so feminine and very careing of others, and a good sense of humor. In spite of many trials with her health, she remained a strong wife and mother. Her love and faith in God never faltered.

Grand-daughter Anna and I were blessed to be there for her 80th birthday party and it is very hard for me today not to be with all my dear family and friends.

Lenny, Suzy, Freddy and Chris and all your families – I love you very much – I hug each one – and am with you in spirit today.

The one and only time I met Aunt Martha was at her birthday celebration almost four years ago. She was so much fun and she was constantly making me chuckle. Her body might have been aging, but her sense of humor and fun-loving ways were in top shape. I feel blessed that I got a chance to meet her, and I know she is looking down on you all today. Anna
