It is with great sadness that the family of Herbert H. Secrest announces his passing after a brief illness, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the age of 89 years old.
Herb will be lovingly remembered by his children, Pam (Glen) Ashman and Stephen (Robin) Secrest. He will also be fondly remembered by his four Grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Russo, Kevin Ashman, Matthew Secrest, and Christopher (Katy) Secrest. Herb was preceded in death by his wife Lois Secrest.
Herb was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army where he rose to the rank of Sargent. He retired from Mar Tab Vending after 20+ years and worked another 5 years with a local pay phone company. He was active in his church serving on various committees and you could always find him helping out with the annual church fair. He loved helping his wife in her pie making by buying all the ingredients, setting the pies out to cool, and transporting them very carefully down to the church fair. He was the BEST pie salesman!
He was a wonderful dad and grandfather! He took his family fishing and camping throughout Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. He took his grandkids to Disney World, church, and swimming at the beach.
In his later years, he enjoyed going to Dunkin Donuts every afternoon for a cup of coffee, a doughnut, and to chat with friends there. After his wife passed, he looked forward to Saturday morning visits from his son and his dog, Mocha. All three had breakfast together.
A Celebration of Herb’s Life is planned for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 13th at First Church of North Miami Congregational, 1200 NE 135th Street, North Miami, FL 33161. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Herb Secrest to a charity of your choice.
