Mrs. Hilda K Lo also known as Ming was born on August 14, 1042 in Chongqing China. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Covenant Village care Center of Florida after a long bout 21 years with Parkinson’s disease on August 20, 2015 at the age of 73. She is survived with her only son Ian Lo.

Thorough those memorable years of growing up, she has always been a wonderful, loving and considerate daughter to her parents. Jhy and Chuan Chung and caring, helpful and exemplary sister to her brothers, Joseph, Shian and John. She was very intelligent and diligent and achieved high degree academic excellence. As a result she attended the best university in Taiwan and graduated with honor with a BS degree in entomology in 1964. Because of her kind, caring and uplifting nature, she was well­-liked and respected among her friends and peers.

She came to the United States to advance her education in1966. She received a master of science degree in microbiology from Illinois Institute of Technology IIT in Chicago in 1968. She continued to work and study very hard at IIT and received her PhD in biology from IIT in 1974. During her time at IIT she married Dr. Timothy Lo and had a son , Ian Lo. She and Timothy then joined the faculty of Medical School of University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. They made their home in Miami and started to raise their family. She continues to excel in her area of research and had many publications and received multitude of scientific awards. She also became a member of the Chinese Baptist Church in Miami and contributed and served actively for many years.

She did not have great success in her marriage. She married twice. Both marriages ended up in divorce. But there were no bitter feeling. She and her ex­husbands Tim and Bill remained as good friends after their divorces.

Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1995, but she remained to be active and productive during the early stage of the disease on the faculty staff of University of Miami until 2000 and retired from the University. She was able to live independently and enjoyed her retirement and the ocean. As the decease progressed she was admitted to Covenant Village of Florida Care Center in early 2008. She was able to maintain dignity and quality of life until the end. Thanks to the loving, tender, care of the nursing staff of the Covenant Village and the love and frequent visits from dear friends Judy Lamb, Wanning Determan , brother Shian and many family members.

Hilda always loves the ocean. It is her wish to return to the ocean in the end. Her wish was fulfilled. Her cremated remains was scattered in the ocean near beautiful Islamorada Florida Key on September 11, 2015. Hilda touched the hearts and spirits of so many with her big smile and personality, but more than anything her huge, loving and caring heart. She will be truly missed.

We will celebrate Hilda’s life on Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 3-5 p.m. at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, 1600 North University Drive, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024.
