Sophia Prossic

November 11, 1927~January 23, 2017

Long time resident of Dania Beach, Sophia Prossic, passed away on January 23, 2017, after many years enduring COPD. Sophia was a loving mom, grandma, great- grandma and friend to her immediate family and to so many others who became like family.

Sophia was born in Warsaw, Poland and served as a lieutenant nurse in the Polish Army. She met her husband, Pete, an American GI in Germany and they later married in Italy. She then resided in Mahanoy City, PA and Oneida NY before moving to FL in 1951. In 1957, she moved to her home in Dania Beach where she resided until her passing.

During this time, Sophia continued her nursing career. First working with a DR in Ft Lauderdale for many years, then later at the Dania Clinic. She finished her career doing private duty. Neighbors recall seeing her traveling up and down the neighborhood in her white uniform as she cared for many she knew who were ill, on her own time.

Before her illness, Sophia was often seen tending to her beautiful yard and garden – a hobby she loved. Sophia was also an amazing cook and loved to entertain others with both her delicious meals and games after dinner. Dominos, Scrabble and card games were some of her favorite past times. Her grandkids and great-grandkids share fond memories of these times with their great grandmother.

Sophia was a devout Catholic and The Resurrection Church of Dania Beach was a placed she and her husband, Pete, helped establish. They continued to serve there for many years. Upon her passing, we believe she went straight into the arms of Jesus and was reunited with her husband and her family who were lost to her as a young girl during WWII.

Sophia was 89 years old at her passing and was able to share her last Birthday and Christmas Holidays with her family and friends. We are thankful for the many lives she touched during her lifetime. We miss her and are comforted that she is free and with the Lord.

Pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Peter Prossic. Survived by her loving daughters, Christine (Thomas) Campbell, Judy (Michael) Sturgeon; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Melody, Ryan, Luke; and her pride and joy, great-grandchildren, Chase, Sophia, Shenoa, Corbin, Graham and Melea.

Arrangements entrusted to Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care.

I knew Sophia thru her doctor’s office when I was a pharmaceutical representative and also during my political career. She was a beautiful, caring person. She cared about her patients her community and her family. Her story is one that those that was repeated many times by those who suffered through WWII, however, hers was exceptional in that she met a life partner, that together, they forged a relationship that benefitted all of those that they encountered. Sophia and Pete were instrumental in providing down-to-earth advice to me and many others that helped shape the future of their church and beloved city. My wishes of joy to her family who know that she is with Pete in the arms of the Lord. Bob Duncanson Former Mayor of the City of Dania Beach

Sophia Prossic was the sweetest lady I was privileged to have for a friend. She was loved by all that knew her and will be remembered for years to come. When we talk about her, its with a smile and laugh as we had so many good times together .

Judy and Chris,
I am sorry for the loss of your mother. So often I think of you Judy and the good times we shared: riding your horse on the beach, eating sunflower seeds, going places and having fun. Your family took me to P.A. and I remember the huge jar of Polish pickles your mom and aunt made. So much good food. Many good memories. Please contact me.
I’’d love to hear from you.
My sincere condolences šŸ’
