Gary T. Sumby, 63, of Weston, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 11, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Robbie Sumby; son, Brian Sumby; daughter, Melissa Sumby; brother, Steve Lisa Sumby; sisters, Susan Jimmy Rook and Cathy Mike Chapman; and sister-in-law Karen Sumby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert R. and Cecelia Sumby; and his brother, Wally Sumby. Gary grew up in Franklin Square, NY before moving to Miramar, FL in 1961. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 1969. Gary worked for Burroughs and then Future Metals before joining Hewlett-Packard in 1983, where he remained until his retirement in 2007. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM with a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, all at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Gardens North. Memorial contributions may be made to CureSearch for Children’s Cancer www.curesearch.org

I find it hard to find the words. I have know Gary for more than 40 years. I know that he was a great husband to my sister,a great father to his children. Soft spoken,never had a bad thing to say about anyone. I will miss him very much.My thoughts and prayers go out to all that knew and loved him..

I’m so sorry to hear about Gary’s passing. We were friends from HP and I would meet him for lunch, dinner or a ball game whenever I was in South Florida. We kept in touch through the years mostly by phone. He was a great friend and a wonderful person.
