Victor Augustus Grant was born in Kingston, Jamaica on 13th June 1927.
Victor was a highly skilled printer and bookbinder, and worked at The Daily Gleaner newspaper and at Jamaica Printing Office.
He also played cricket for several teams and enjoyed following a variety of sports teams, both in person and through the media.
He emigrated to London, England in 1959 and met Vilma through mutual friends.
Victor and Vilma were married in March 1962 and raised their sons, Robert and Michael. They were also rewarded with three grandchildren, Alex, Rachel and Emma.
A charismatic man who made friends easily, Victor enjoyed a busy social life, both holding and going to parties with his wide circle of friends. They would play board games, particularly dominoes and, of course, drinking Jamaican White Rum. While in England, he would also visit his buddies in the pub for a pint or two on a regular basis.
Victor worked at a few different jobs when he first arrived in England, but finally ended up working as a bookbinder at the Library Services of the London Borough of Haringey, until he was forced to retire for health reasons in the late 1980s.
He and Vilma decided to move to Florida in 1988, due to family commitments and the better climate, but he always pined for the English fog and smog, the Pub and the Betting Office.
Victor went back to London for regular visits, but over time he traveled less and less, so the family would come to Florida to get together.
In the last two or three years his health gradually deteriorated and in the end, we thought it kinder to let him go.
May he rest in peace – he will be missed. His loving family!
A tribute to his life will be celebrated on Thursday, November 30, 2017, 11:00 AM at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.
