January 05, 1926~January 23, 2010

Verna R. Teigland, 84, our “Bunny”, ended her 16 year battle with cancer on January 23, 2010. Verna was a native Miamian and was born on January 5th, 1926 to parents, Charles and Margaret Isabel Brannon. She is survived by her loving husband, Melbourne B. Teigland DVM, and their three children, Chris M. Teigland M.D., who is married to Lillian McKay Teigland M.D., Philip S. Teigland, and Annette Teigland Reilly, who is married to Michael T. Reilly, M.D. Among her immediate family, Bunny’s pride included her three grandchildren, Peter Erickson Teigland, Claire Lillian Teigland and Anne Katherine Reilly. A devoted best friend and Bunny’s loving sister, Nadine Wright held a most special place in Bunny’s heart and life. Nadine’s son, Michael Wright and two daughters, Debbie Ingram and Kathy Wagner were also close and loving nieces and nephews. Bunny cherished her friends and dedicated her free time to helping others in need through her affiliation with various charities, the Miami Shores Garden Club, the Miami Shores Presbyterian Church, the international charitable educational association, PEO, and her ‘Coffee Group’. Bunny met and married her devoted husband ‘Teg’, in Miami, 63 years ago after only a three month ‘love at first sight’ courtship. Bunny’s career choice was to be a devoted wife and mother. Her life’s goal was to ensure that her children were raised to be caring, honest, loyal and dedicated to their own life endeavors. Bunny lived her life as the family’s foundation and departed this life only after the successful fulfillment of her goals, surrounded and embraced by the love and gratitude of her entire family. A memorial service will be held for Bunny on Saturday, January 30th at the Miami Shores Presbyterian Church. The service will begin at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and to charities supporting the relief efforts in Haiti.
