Thomas Francis Powers, Jr. passed away on September 1, 2008, at age 86. He was born on August 6, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has lived in South Florida since 1936.

Tom was predeceased by his wives, Nina Sue nee Cantrell and Bernice nee Enlow and also his niece, Ruth Binderwald nee Laskowski.

Tom was Electrician’s Apprentice on the USS Shamrock Bay and the USS Chester Naval Carriers during WWII. He was always a patriot and pleased to have served his Country. Tom was a proud member of IBEW Local 349 for 62 years. He was also a 33 Degree Master Free Mason. Tom was able to do anything and everything. If he didn’t know how, he would get a book and learn.

Tom brought life, love, and laughter to all who knew him. He was a loving father, a devoted husband, a wonderful relative and the best of friend to all who knew him.

Tom is survived by his daughters, Gail McDurmon, Rick and Connie Cooper, as well as his son, Tony Cooper. He has three grandchildren, Melanie and Richard McDurmon and Logan Cooper. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jimmie Ruth Songer; sister, Mary Ellen Laskowski, and nephew, Thomas Laskowski.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at the Hialeah Church of Christ – 7700 West 20th Avenue, 305-558-1060.
