To my dear cousin Alan I remember we used to play at Grandmaman’s house as children – you with your blanket tied around your neck playing Superman – recklessly climbing trees and jumping down from them trying to fly. I am sure you have now flown to heaven where members of our family that have passed before have greeted you with open arms. Your uncle André and your Canadian cousins are all in shock – you left us far too fast. We love and will miss you.

I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Alan’s passing. Beginning in 1999 when I was hired as music director at 1st Methodist Hollywood he was the first to befriend me, was a faithful choir member, and the “little brother” I could count on whenever I needed help with anything — if I was moving, sick, had car problems, whatever, he was always there for me. I will fondly remember our many after-choir dinners at Shuck’s on the Circle, and long conversations about spiritual matters, music and law — and weekly choir after-church brunches with “THEM”. I’m sorry I lost touch with him after I moved back to KY in 2006, but am certain he knows how very much his friendship meant to me, one of the most important people in my life during several years. I know we will meet again “when the roll is called up yonder”.

My son and I helped Alan w/ Bread Ministry the past 2 years. We were w/ him on Saturday, and, while he was sick the last 2 Saturdays, we were shocked to learn of his passing. I had a great deal of respect for what Alan did for people, and I greatly enjoyed his company. We discussed many legal issues and various historical events most notably Civil War-related as we handed out bread and baked goods to passers by.
Alan was friendly to all, and he was quick w/ a quip. My son and I will miss him.

To my cousin Alan:
I have fond memories of growing up in Miami and the weekly dinners at our grandparents’ house. Our French grandparents emigrated to South Florida from Algeria, and did not speak English. I remember a very young Alan laughingly telling me: “Cacahuètes” is French for “peanuts”. He got a big kick out of pronouncing the first 2 syllables!
Two years ago, I visited Alan, Mimi and my Aunt Germaine. We had a lovely visit which I will always cherish.

Alan, my cousin, was always full of life. As a child, he had an innate curiousity about life in general. He had a keen sense of observation and would question and challenge our explanations to his questions. He always had a story to tell too. Who can forget his warm smile?
I cherish the many happy memories of our childhood – family gatherings for Sunday dinners at our grandparents’ home, birthday parties, picnics…
Words cannot express how shocked and saddened Brian and I were to learn of Alan’s sudden passing. May his kind and generous spirit rest in peace.

I was very sad to learn about Alan’s passing only Saturday. I had known Alan since the early ’90s. I have rarely known a person as smart and funny as he was. I learned much from him and held his opinions in high esteem. I regret hearing about it after the service, I would have definitely attended had I known. Rest in Peace, my friend.
