Virginia Lee Garcia, 85, was a native Miamian born June 11, 1929 and received into God’s loving hands August 7, 2014. She attended elementary and junior high schools in Miami and was a proud graduate of Miami High School, class of 1947.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 41 years, Jose, and parents, Abel and Marie Lee.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted and loving daughter and son-in-law, Savina and Michael Quackenbush; adored grandchildren, Michael Quackenbush Diana, Kim Hess Brad, Bobby Quackenbush; two cherished great-grandsons, Austin and Drew Hess; cousin, Dorothy Carroll; and many loving and supportive friends.

As a convert Virginia was devoted to her Catholic faith. She was a long time active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hialeah and most recently with St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida. During her attendance at Immaculate Conception, she heard God’s calling and served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Virginia was only 13 when she got her first job at Royal Bakery in Miami, and as a young mother, she worked for many years at Lady Fair Bakery. She proudly worked at the Miami Airport Marriott Hotel as the hotel’s switchboard supervisor for 15 years, retiring at the age of 70. She was an active and charter member of the Miami Filipino-American Club with her husband, bringing awareness of the Filipino culture in the South Florida area.

Sincere gratitude and thanks to her caretakers, Dr. Barry Harris and his assistant Catherine, Dr. Jubran Hoche, visiting nurse, Renon Consuegra and home aide, Martha Paulino. Loving thanks to Louse Marie Moise who faithfully brought Holy Communion to her each Sunday, her dear birthday club members and Thursday card-playing friends who brightened her days. They will always have a special place in her heart.

A Catholic Celebration of Life mass will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 12 noon at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 701 N. Hiatus Road, Pembroke Pines, FL with burial to follow at Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 NW 57th Avenue, Hialeah.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations to the St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church Building Fund or favorite charity of your choice.
