George Eric Schofield, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and life companion.

George E. Schofield, 83, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and East Harwich, Massachusetts, formerly of West Newbury, MA died Friday, December 22nd at Palm Beach Gardens Emergency in Palm Beach Gardens.

Born in North Andover, Massachusetts, September 10, 1934 a son of the late Carl and Muriel Schofield, he was a graduate of North Andover High School in the Class of 1952 and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, class of 1959.

Before his retirement, George was the owner of Georgetown Insurance Agency and served two terms as President of the Dalton Club in Newburyport, MA. He was also a veteran of the Korean War.

George is survived by a son Stephen Schofield and his betrothed Mary Rivard of Salisbury, MA; a daughter Sarah Santos and her husband Chris of Old Orchard Beach, ME; two grandchildren Eric Santos and his wife Jessie of Portland, ME and Nicolas Santos of Old Orchard Beach; a brother Carl of Gloucester, MA; a former wife Sheila Schofield currently living in Aix en Provence, France; and many nieces and nephews.

George is also survived by his long-time life companion Aldona Zitkas; her two children, Joanie Shea of Worcester, MA and Linda Hetel of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; three grand children; and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Marjorie Jordan of Framingham, MA.

A celebration of life will be held on June 30, 2018, at The Dalton Club, 95 State Street Newburyport, MA, between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Should family and friends desire, an expression of sympathy may be sent to a charity of their choice in remembrance of George.

George was a gentleman and a lovely man. He brought me fishing, we played cribbage, watched baseball, and ate clams together. He was a Host with the most. I miss knowing you are not there.
