George Walter Mueller passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 13, at the age of 95 in Hollywood, Florida.

George was born on March 13, 1923 in High Falls, Quebec to George and Alma Mueller. The youngest of three children, he grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where he attended school and worked at a variety of jobs, including at Anheuser Busch and Western Union. In 1943, he enlisted in the Army and trained to be a pilot, which began his lifelong love of aviation. He was sent to England to fight during World War II and flew 17 missions, eventually reaching the rank of lieutenant. After the war, George went to work for the then-nascent Eastern Airlines. He worked his way up in the company, eventually becoming station manager in Evansville, Indiana. While there, he met his future wife, Julia McCarty. They married in Evansville on December 24, 1950, and later had two children.

In 1967, they moved to Hollywood, Florida, where George continued to work for Eastern Airlines until his retirement. George was active in his church, St. Mark’s Lutheran. An avid horticulturist, he grew award-winning bromeliads. He also loved playing tennis and was an outstanding and ruthless bridge player. Most of all, he loved his family and drew great joy from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Julia and sister Alma. He is survived by his brother Gerhard, his son Dr. George Mueller (wife Beverly), his daughter Beth (husband Philip), four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, May 16, from 6-8 PM at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care in Hollywood, Florida. A service in celebration of George’s life will take place on Thursday, May 17, at Cason Methodist Church in Delray Beach at 1 PM.
