January 23, 1924~May 01, 2019

Rena Victoria Morris  (Nee Haye)  AKA Moms, Sister Rena, Sister Morris, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, La La…saw the Sunrise on January 23,1924 in Water Works District, Parish of Westmoreland Jamaica W I. The only child of the late, John and Alice Haye; a humble family , who were dedicated to their Christian belief and faith.

Moms  grew up in a humble family , who were dedicated to their Christian belief and faith. Yes she had to go through her Crucibles as we all do. She gave birth to her two eldest sons Kenneth and Orett .

All through her long life Mom’s was always an ambitious lady ever striving for higher goals. She dabbled in the Dry Goods store business, and was an accomplished Seamstress, becoming the Go-to lady for making beautiful clothing for adults and kids. Several ladies in the district owe their knowledge of dressmaking to her training.

Rena was swept off her feet by a young man  (Lesept Morris) whom she married on February 12, 1947. Their union produced  a  son Vernon  and a Daughter (Heather) who sadly died at the tender age of four years.

The family migrated to  England  in 1961 Again still striving for higher goals in her life, she qualified and worked as a Registered Midwife Nurse. (BBC Series-Midwives of UK)..The stories she told about her experience as a Midwife nurse were amazing and touching at times.

Mom’s  and her husband Lesept migrated to the US (New York)  in 1977 . Where she continued to work as a registered Nurse until her retirement in 1992, when they both  relocated to Pembroke Pines FL…Her husband pre-de-ceased her at the age of 80 in  2000 …

Little did I know my Mother tried her hand at Poetry..I was surprised while going through some documents to find some poems written and signed by her, tucked away…

The years of hard work and dedication started to take its toll on Moms,  consequently  she was forced to slow down somehow…Although she was never diagnosed with any major affliction, age has a way of taking its toll on us in so many ways.

I know for certainty My Mother was at peace and  ready to go for a rest  as soon as the Good Lord was ready to call her name…She saw Her Sunset on May 01st 2019

To celebrate a life well lived Mom’s, leaves  –3 Sons-Kenneth-Orett-Vernon…Daughter-In-Laws Beverley Mcleod, Janet Morris-10-Grand  Children…11-Great Grand children, at last count… Extended family and friends.

Two extra stars are in the skies,
I know they are my mother's eyes,
Looking down upon her fold,
Remembering memories wrapped in gold.

Now at rest Mam, free from pain
You're with my Dad now
Together again.

I have come across this as I begin my ancestry search. My grandmother was an amazing seamstress. I have a dress she made for me at 3 years old. I am going to let my granddaughter take a picture in this dress. which still maintains it’s beautifully woven pattern and pink colour. Mumma Rena as I named you, it was truly an honour to have known you.

love Carolyn (granddaughter)
