March 10, 1938~February 10, 2019

Russell Douglas Macgregor, age 80, of Hollywood, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019, under the care of Seasons Hospice.

He was born on March 10, 1938, in Ayr, Scotland, one of three children born to the late James and Margaret (McCubbing) Macgregor.

Russell had a wide interest in world affairs, he was fun to talk to.  He was pragmatic, had ready opinions (peppered with infectious humor) and he gave unfailing support to conservation of the natural environment. Above all, perhaps, we will  remember the ‘Scottishness’ that strengthened his every fibre, and his kindness and generosity.  Russell was a fine man with a keen and critical mind and we will miss his welcome presence in our lives more than we can ever say.

A tribute t Russells life will be celebrated on Monday, February 25th, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.

Our sincerest condolences to Ian and the entire MacGregor family. Russell, we were all saddened when we heard the news of your passing. We will miss your cheerful presence around the condo, and your willingness to always stop and chat. You were never afraid to express your sincere opinion about whatever subject we talked about. That sure led to some lively discussions. We particularly remember your love of the environment and especially wildlife. Whenever we had any question about what type of bird or animal we could not identify, we just saw you and, more times than not, you would give us the answer right then and there. So, with the sound of the pipes playing Amazing Grace, we say goodbye, Russ. May you have a safe journey across the sea to your final resting place. Godspeed Bertha, Dawn Kathleen, James Jr. and James Sr.

Heart- felt condolences to kith & kin scattered by four winds to both North &South hemispheres for a life well led. Exactly one month on to the day, Feb. saw Russell enter Johnny Rocket’s restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, an RV for brunch. A waitress he had charmed to secure a good table, led us to our places in full view of posters of ’50s & ’60s icons. In his company, you could feel the full weight of the quote," some men’s whole delight is to talk a cockalayne over a pot."- Robert Burton 17Cen. author. Russell was a reflective type, making a mockery of the book title. Laurence Sterne 18Cen. followed this with the Life & opinions of Tristran Shandy, Gentleman. that was Russell. Add, if you will, Old School.

Continuing from previous entry, Russell’s other attributes come to light. His working life in Miamidade district, involved selling high- end yachts from a boat yard on the banks of the river Miama. I speculate now on the restaurant of his choice. Among his equally high- end clientele was a certain ‘Johnny Hallyday, whom he sold a craft to, named ‘Gabrielle’, a title that became a hit for the French Rock’n’Roller in the’70s. He had the ability to hit your funny bone where it hurt. He revealed that we were both sworn to secrecy over a certain Leila Macgregor’s divulgence in obtaining 2 prime concert tickets for herself and Ian to see some celebrated ‘Diva’, He would ‘phone after the event to ask for his thoughts.
