Anna Turturro

October 10, 1934~January 06, 2020

Anna Turturro, age 85, of Hollywood, FL passed away Monday, January 6th, 2020.  Anna was born October 10, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Philip Balsamo and Carmela Femiano. Anna and her husband, Louis, moved from New York to South Florida in 1963 and Anna quickly got involved in many activities including women’s league tennis, boating, fishing, and scuba diving. She also enjoyed yearly trips to North Carolina for family gatherings and snow skiing.  Later in her life, Anna loved her weekly card games, lunches and dinners with her friends, fun-filled social events with her local chapter of the Red Hat Society and was very involved with her church. Anna developed life-long friendships from her involvement in tennis and the Red Hat Society and she loved her friends very much.  Anna loved to sell (and shop), so her part-time sales-associate jobs at Burdines and Saks Fifth Avenue were great outlets for both of those passions.  Anna embraced life and was always looking for the next fun activity, trip, cruise, or visiting with her family.  She loved to travel with her husband, Louis, her children AnnMarie, Phyllis and Vincent and her grandsons to many different countries and was fortunate enough to go on an 85th birthday cruise with her children in October of 2019.  Of all the things Anna loved to do, cooking for and entertaining her family and friends was her favorite.  She carried on the traditions of Italian cooking that she learned from her father and mother-in-law and shared it with everyone from the dining halls of Visitation and Madonna Catholic schools to the kitchens of her children’s homes and her Hollywood apartment. Anna was a wonderful mother, grandmother and wife and she loved her family dearly.  She raised her three children to be strong, independent and faithful and her strong faith was a foundation for her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Louis Turturro. Survivors include her three children, daughters;  AnnMarie Kocher and husband Joel of Austin, TX, and Phyllis Miller and husband Larry of Tampa, FL and son Vincent Turturro and wife Adrianne of Milton, GA. Ten grandsons; Anthony, Michael, Joseph, Chase, Jake, Matthew, Ian, Nicholas, Ryan and Christian and one great-grandson Alexander. Anna will be remembered as a warm, loving and giving person who inspired many to embrace life and experience it to the fullest.

The family will hold a funeral service on Monday, January 20th, 2020 at 10:00 am at Nativity Catholic Church in Hollywood, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Catholic Hospice – https://www.catholichealthservices.org/donate/ or MD Anderson Cancer Center, https://www.mdanderson.org/donors-volunteers/donate/honor-loved-ones.html.

Arrangements entrusted to Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, Hollywood Boulevard Chapel.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Anna a few times during tennis matches when she came to cheer on Vince. She was a special lady. May she rest in peace and may you be comforted by the wonderful memories you have of her.
