March 31, 1927~March 07, 2020

Joseph Solomon Price was born on March 31, 1927, in Gibraltar, in the parish of St Ann, Jamaica. He was the seventh of ten children born to Benjamin Price and Rosa Maud Price (nee Hylton) and was affectionately called Joe or Stredwick. After successfully completing his primary education, he moved to Kingston and worked as a bus conductor for the Lindsay Bus Company. During that time, he enrolled as an evening student in the Accounting Department at Kingston Technical High School. Upon graduation, he worked at the Labour Department, the University of the West Indies Building Department and Bennett’s National Laboratory. Joe eventually opened his own import/export business.

While living in Kingston in 1963, Joseph rededicated his life to Jesus Christ and became an active member and, later, a deacon of the East Queen Baptist Church. There, he met the little lady who would be the love of his life, Gwendolyn “Ivy” Williams, and whom he would always call “Honey”. They married on July 25, 1970 and were blessed the following year with the birth of their son, Joseph Stephen, and 14 months later, with their daughter Camille. They continued their lives in Kingston until August of 1979, when Joe and his family emigrated to the United States and eventually settled in White Plains, New York. Joe was employed as a Mental Health Worker at New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center–Westchester Division, where he worked until his retirement. He was also a committed member of the Bronx Baptist Church and served as deacon and a teacher of the Adult Sunday School. He had a compassionate heart for the elderly and volunteered endless hours with Meals-on-Wheels and worked as a home health aide for various senior citizens.

Shortly after retiring, Joe and his “Honey” relocated to Sunrise, Florida where they continued to honor their faithful commitment to the Lord Jesus by joining the First Baptist Church of Sunrise, where he also served in the Sunday School and as a deacon. Joe continued his passion for helping others with the Broward Division of Meals on Wheels. Joe’s true love for the Lord was evident in the kindness and care he extended to those beyond his immediate family. He shared the gospel with as many as he could while demonstrating the love of Christ with the time he took to invest in the lives of his friends and extended family. Although a serious man by nature, he never ceased to pray for his loved ones and friends, his fellow church sisters and brothers and many, many others. His love for his family was unparalleled and his love for his Lord and Saviour without question. Although he was preceded in death by his son, Stephen, who passed away on December 23, 2019, Joe always maintained his faith in God.

Joe leaves behind his beloved Honey of 49 years, Gwen, daughter Camille, a treasure of nieces and nephews, favored god-daughters Gaye and Melissa Lawrence, and many wonderful friends. He slipped quietly into our Saviours’ Arms on March 7, 2020. We thank the Lord for His goodness in making him an enduring part of our lives.

Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 21st, 1:00 PM at Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.
