Velma Gwendolyn Rowans, age 86yrs, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6th, 2020 at North Miami Beach Rehabilitation nursing home in North Miami Beach, Florida. She was born on May 17th, 1934 in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago to Ammon Rowans (School Principal) and Albertha Fortune (Post Mistress).
In her prime, she worked at Caribbean Development Company Limited, in Trinidad as cashier and in her later years migrated to Miami, Florida; and worked as a missionary for the Adventist church in Miami Gardens, Florida. She was a devoted mother who had a real passion for life and her faith in God; also, dessert was a must have, after her lunch. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as; chatting with friends and family, snacking and spending time with fellow worshippers.
She always took the lead in imparting wisdom and always there for friends or foe alike; no questions asked. She will be sorely missed and was truly a blessing to all who knew her. While we mourn her passing; we feel comforted by the fact that her place in heaven is guaranteed; and she has finally gone home to her lord and savior Jesus Christ.
A memorial service will be held on a later date, when it is safe to do so; due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Not condolences but a memory. Velma had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. She always gave a listening ear and you knew she was paying rapt attention by her” Right! Righ!! ” or ” yes!” Yes!’ Was the first to wake up when she visited us in Barbados. She would do her devotions and then sip on a cup of hot water. She would say : ” Come have some hot water to drink. That’s what you should do first thing everyday.”. Abd without hesitation she rattled off all the health benefits there were in drinking that water. A caring and protective mother she was. Until Ckyde and Ainsworth were considered old enough to “handle themselves” she took them with her wherever she went. They can tell you about the amount of travelling they did as young boys. She was a great lady. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Heaven has gained another angel. Again, I extend condolences to you cuz Clyde and Ainsworthe and the grands and great-grands.

A compassionate and caring child of God has gone to sleep and awaits His call. May God comfort all family and friends as we wait to see her again on that great getting up morning.
