Joanne Cardone DeLizza, RPH, E-RYT 500, left her body to be with her Ancestors, Guides and the Angels on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at her residence in Davie, Florida. Her son, Chris DeLizza, and husband, Bob DeLizza, were with her at home when her spirit ascended.
On Thanksgiving Day, her family visited to express the joy it was to have known her and the positive impact she had upon them.
While still very ill, but before the disease took her mobility, she adorned our blackboard with the phrase, “Let our lives be full of both THANKS and GIVING.” This was sooo Joannie.
Like most Florida Italians, she was born in New York—Brooklyn in 1958 to be specific. She migrated to Florida in the mid 1960’s with her mother, Lucille, father, Fred, and sister, Linda.
As an adult, Joanne dedicated her life to helping others. First, as a pharmacist (University of Florida, Gainesville) and in a more direct and soulful way, as a yoga teacher. One of her proudest achievements was when she accumulated the 1000 teaching hours required to be designated E-RYT-500, whereby “E” represents an Experienced Yoga instructor. Joanne specialized in restorative and gentle yoga focusing on the body, movement, and injuries of her students. In doing so, she presented a myriad of modifications, offering options and alternatives targeting the unique needs of each student.
She was an amazingly helpful and kind person who would go out of her way to respond to any request she heard, felt, or perceived. Joanne was the GLUE that cemented the bond between and within the Cardone and DeLizza families.
It is no surprise to those who were lucky enough to spend time with her that she was voted “Most Dependable” by her classmates at Hollywood Hills High school. The trait of dependability stayed with her until she was called to the next realm. During her last few weeks she organized how some of her special possessions would be gifted to whom (holding or gazing upon each piece till a name revealed itself), providing lists of accounts, passwords, laundry instructions to Bob, and writing a detailed job description complete with task lists so the transition at the office would be as peaceful as she is now.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 37 years, Bob RTY-500 (who aspires someday to be as good of a Yoga teacher as she was); son, Chris (of whom she gushes, yes gushes with pride of what a fine man he has become), as well as her mother, Lucille, sister, Linda (both of whom she adored), and a large grouping of Cardone cousins, nieces, and nephews; too numerous to name. Special hugs go to Kristin Rose (aka Toes) who took the Yoga plunge with her.
Joanne also leaves behind an entire “family” of friends, specifically the students and staff of “The Prana Lab,” and her decades-long friends in “juniors” and the wine…I mean book club.
Joanne’s love of life, learning and joy took her to all corners of the world. Besides enjoying visits to most of the North American continent, she also traveled to Australia, Hawaii, Alaska, Costa Rica, Cambodia, and Vietnam (long way from here). The best trip was the family visit with the “cousins” to Italy; the birthplace of Grandma “Florida” aka Josephine, and Grandpa, Secundo, as well as the home of longtime family friend and Saint Padre Pio.
While she loved to travel and explore, Joanne’s special place was the shady backyard pergola where most afternoons she could be found watching Yoga videos.
Plans for a Celebration of her Life will be finalized in the coming months so we can get together as group and enjoy her spirit together.
May the power of the angels help us during our time of need.

I have such fond memories of Joanne from UF. She and June would go with me to church and coffee afterwards regularly. I had the fortunate opportunity to call her my good friend. I hope and pray for her soul and the hearts and souls of her family during this time. She is in Gods hands now. Prayers for her soul. Strength and faith for her family I pray.

I am so saddened to learn of Joanne’s passing. I loved her yoga classes and got such a peace from Joanne’s instruction. The yoga community and, really, the world, has definitely lost a beautiful soul.
