Hubert Riviere Nelson

September 16, 1945~November 19, 2020

Hubert (Shubert as his friends knew him) Riviere Nelson was born on September 16, 1945 in Jean Rabel Guinaudee Haiti to late Riviere Nelson and Late Vornelle Pierre-Louis Nelson. Hubert went to school in Port de Paix and completed his secondary school in Lycee Tertulien Guilbaud. Even during his youth, Hubert always displayed kindness and compassion to others and kids always shared a special place in his heart.

Hubert moved to Miami as a young adult initially working as an insurance agent helping families prepare for the future. He ultimately spent a large portion of his adulthood as a taxi driver for over 30 years. His love for people truly helped him connect to everyone he interacted with and he would normally bring back words of wisdom or “learnings” from those he drove to their destination.  He didn’t see being a taxi driver as just a job but a way to help families commute to their destination with a peace of mind.  He predominately worked in the South Miami area where he interacted with many faculty at the University of Miami and his love for the “Canes” football team grew more. When he wasn’t working, he loved to play “Bezique” with his friends and spend time with family while connecting with his two special young ladies in his life, his two daughters.

Today we are here to celebrate his story and to continue to celebrate him through many generations to come. We want to take time today to remember all the laughs we shared with him, the times he shared his words of wisdoms, and the times he just listened to how we felt. Hubert will leave a void in our hearts that can only be filled by memories he created. He will always serve as a constant reminder about what life is truly about: family, good times, and loyal friends all held together by LOVE. Thank you Hubert for being true to heart and showing us how to love one another and to always put family first.  We will always remember you and love you.

Hubert is survived by his daughters Daphne Williamson and Michelle Justin, his grandchildren Solomon Desir, Samuel Desir, and Shiloh Justin, his sister Melila Cadet, his brother Charite Nelson, his aunt Mme Misius Parfait, his nephews Emmanuel and Elie Cadet, his nieces Anite Nelson, Edlyne Cadet, and Edna Kennedy, his grand nephews Mezi Cadet and Gabriel Cadet, his grand nieces Chanson Cadet and Alexandra Benitez, his cousins Herriot Pierre Louis, Naudin Pierre Louis, Evelyn Pierre Louis, Astrid Pierre Louis, Annick Pierre Louis, Ketley Family, Sorel Jacques, Jackson Jacques, Immacula Jacques, Rebel Jacques, Donet Family, IIane Belias, Iveniel Belias. Special thank you to the friends and neighbors affected by his passing.
