My dad was one of the Kings of Stanhope St & Central Ave. (La Esquina)
as described by many of my great friends of Stanhope St. While I am the youngest of 6, some of my best memeries of Pop are from Stanhope St. were I spent most of my younger years…Everytime I went to the bodega on the corner, everyone would ask me, Y Chacal donde estas?? Dile que venga pa ka. Everyone always wanted him to be a part of what they were doing, he was very popular. I can’t remember anyone of importance to me ever saying anything negative about Pop. Like my Mom (Noelia), this is a tremendous loss and it is incredibly painful. I know he was 84, and he was with us for a good amount of time, but I am most happy about the memories he left with more than a handful of people…from our home, to his work, to La Esquina, to playing Rummy with any of my 50 aunts and uncles, to the summer weekend family outings to Riis Beach, Manhattan Beach, Rockland State Park, and many other places. Even just hangin’ out have some spirits on the front stoop with his best friends Tomas Morales (RIP) and Vinicio Nuรฑez (RIP)…I am going to miss you for the rest of my life Pop…And know that you’re gonna get an earful from Ma…Give big hugs to Lydia, Frances and Junior for me!!!
Duerme En Paz Papi…Tu Bebe (Cesar) Te Quiero Mucho!!!
