On, April 12th, 2021, Shirley Marie Reeves passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Shirley graduated from high school and went on to work at Harvard University before marrying the late James Devaughn Reeves in 1947. They lived in Somerville, Massachusetts, before relocating to California for a short period of time, where she had her first son, and then moved back to Somerville, and had two daughters and a son before permanently moving to sunny South Florida, where the last four children were born. Let it be said that Shirley did not miss the snow and absolutely loved living in the warmth of South Florida.
Shirley, whose loving daughter Judy passed away in February of 2021, is survived by her sister, Jean Cunniff, two brothers, James and John Corbett, six children, James D. Reeves, Jr., of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and his wife Wanda, Diane Welc of Davie, Florida, and her husband Frank, Nancy Vela of Miramar, Florida, and her husband Gus, David Reeves of Miramarand his wife Diane, Stephen Reeves of West Palm Beach and his wife Lynel, Linda Siwek of Miramar and her husband, James. Also, she was blessed to be the grandmother of 15 children, great grandmother of 23 children, and great, great grandmother to one child.
As if taking care of seven children wasn’t enough, Shirley, also, jokingly known as Rita Realty, endeavored to enter the real estate market in her early forties, buying many properties and selling a few, where she excelled beyond her wildest dreams. Nothing brought a twinkle to her eyes like the prospect of buying a property and getting a bargain.
Shirley was the most selfless, kind, caring, loving woman, always with a glowing smile and words of encouragement to everyone. Our hearts are broken at the loss of our dear mother. May she Rest in Peace in God’s hands.
