Chidiebere A. Onyejuruwa

January 10, 1987~June 06, 2021

Chidiebere A. Onyejuruwa (34), affectionately known as Chidi, unexpectedly passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 in Los Angeles, California. Although, proudly Nigerian, he was born in Hialeah, Florida on January 10, 1987 and spent his childhood and teenage years in Miramar, Florida.

Always the free spirit, he relocated on a whim to Los Angeles, California in 2012 to pursue his passion in film production and cinematography. He worked on various music videos, runway productions, and short films, before winning a PGA Short Film Award for a project entitled ‘Symphony of Senses’ which was also debuted during the 2015 Academy Awards. Since then, he had successfully begun to rise in the post production and highly competitive video game industry as a well-liked and respected capture artist. In his down time, he enjoyed all things tech related (including building his own PCs), outdoor adventures, learning to trade stocks, and riding his motorcycle on the weekends. His family meant the world to him and he traveled home to Florida often.

Chidi is survived by his loving parents (Richard & Francesca), supportive siblings (Evelyn “Buchi” & Uzochi), adoring dog (Enyi), and a large extended family throughout Africa, Europe, & the United States. He will be deeply missed by all.

As absolutely heartbroken as his friends and family are, a life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.

Please join us during any or all of the upcoming events in honor of our beloved, Chidi.

‘Black Girls Code’ Mission: To empower young women of color (7-17yo) to embrace the current tech marketplace as builders and creators by introducing them to skills in computer programming and technology.

“This country has a terrible history, but just like all of humanity we’ve come a long way and we’re being presented with another opportunity to continue steering our future to a brighter place. The organization that jumped out to me the most was Black Girls Code (BlackGirlsCode.com).

The future is in IT and people of color, especially women, haven’t had enough of a voice in this sector. Not that any other causes are less important, but I’d personally rather put effort towards the youth who are still full of hope and the opportunities they will have in front of them.” – Chidi Onyejuruwa (June 2020)

My darling son left us too early. I am so overcome with emotions and cannot adequately express how much it hurts. The last conversation we had was me teasing him about telling his girlfriends I used to wipe the mucus off his nose as a snotty 5-year-old. Chidi gave me a big hug and squeeze. I choose to remember you as the fun-loving little boy I took care of. May you Rest In Peace Chidi. You will forever remain in my heart!

It is difficult to understand but we must learn to accept that His ways are not our ways. It was just like yesterday when your parents visited us in Ibadan with your sister and you less than a year old. You grew into a wonderful young man and a blessing. We will miss you but The Almighty needed a soldier and picked you as He find you able and worthy. Continue to shine and bring consolation to your parents, sister and brother.

OMG, Chidi dearest, whatever happened to our Hollywood joke! Whenever we joked about it, with that your big broad smile on your face, you always said, “Aunty don’t worry, I promise am gonna make it happen”. Now what, our dearly beloved Chidi!
Like a candle in the wind, a vapor, a mist, right before our very eyes you just vanished, gone & gone forever & ever. How very short life is!

We’re so grief stricken & so very heart broken without you dear Chidi. Little did I know that the last time we’re in your parents’ garage eating, drinking, chatting away & with your adorable dog – Enyi excitedly playing around was the very last time I will see you. How I desperately wish that this is only but a dream that will soon be over. It’s still quite unimaginable & unbelievable.

Despite how very brief the time we shared with you was, I will always thank God for the gift of you in our lives & for how very beautifully you touched my family & I in so many special ways. Thanks millions our beloved Chidi for being such an awesome big brother to Jr. & Bobbie. More thanks for the very beautiful pink hydro flask you sent to Bobbie all the way from California just few months back.

We sure will miss you so very sorely our beloved Chidi but heaven definitely gained A VERY BEAUTIFUL ANGEL. Until that glorious resurrection morning when we will all meet to part no more, rest in God’s loving embrace dear Chidi in Jesus mighty name 🙏🏽. Forever in our hearts dear beloved Chidi.

Miss you so very much,
Aunty Adaobi Ike-Chinye.

Francesca & the rest of the Onyejuruwa family-
May you and your family be continuously held in the bosom of the Lord Almighty. Please reflect on the beautiful memories that you all shared with Chidi. Lastly, remember that, “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” (NIV, Psalm 30:5b). That truly is joy from the Lord. Indeed, it surpasses all of our understandings.
I love you & may the blessings of God be with each of you.

Chidiii!

My beloved friend, you are already so missed. You finally wore me down and showed me that, with Enyi, I could love dogs! Haha! Oh man, where to begin, your beautiful smile and infectious laugh, your amazing spirit and sense of calm, your perfect teeth, your reflective and logical demeanor, our dark humor jokes, all of those things are absent from this realm, but will echo on and on in my memory forever! I love that you always honored our friendship and showed up cool as a cucumber and looking great to boot! You lived your life, and so I will do the same in your honor… I will cherish our final hug, on May 22nd, where we battled to see who could squeeze the other tighter. You won, as you always do. I love you dood! Excelsior!

For 20 days now I have comforted my broken heart with the memory of your infectious smile and unforgettable giggle. Thank you for making it so easy to mentor you. Sharing the experience of tagging you along to buy computer parts and helping you build your computer was pure joy! Chidi, I want to thank you for using your gifts and passion to serve our church community at Holy Family (oftentimes pass 2 am!). Thank you Franca for allowing him to do so. Sweetie, I am grateful for your loving kindness usually in the form of the best hug! I had the pleasure of working with Chidi only briefly but fortunately got to know him quickly. He was an absolute delight – clever, funny, thoughtful, skillful, brave, and kind. He always lit up whatever room he was in. All of my sympathies and condolences to all of his family and friends, and to all the people who won’t have a chance to meet him now. I’m lucky to have known you, Chidi.
