In 1956 together with his two brothers, Reginald and Gerald, the Byrde family settled in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia (now, Harare, Zimbabwe). Harold was a rambunctious teenager, full of life and open to all experiences. The more adventuresome the better. Harold was fearless in life and in keeping with his zest for adventure, relocated to the United States settling temporarily in Washington DC. before moving on to San Francisco, CA.
Harold was fortunate enough and valued every opportunity afforded him in working in his beloved profession of commercial Architecture/Interior Design. He was extremely dedicated to his craft, and displayed a strong work ethic, and demanded the same from his coworkers. His work literally took him around the world starting in San Francisco, back to Washington DC, then on to Honolulu, Hawaii, Los Angeles, CA, Tokyo, Japan, Hong Kong, China, back to the USA- Florida, and Scottsdale, AZ then off again to Cairo, Egypt, London, England, and his last and most treasured project before retiring in 2004, the Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman.
In retirement he spent time with his family traveling to Key West, Florida, Europe, Australia, and Cozumel. Paris was one of the favorite destinations he enjoyed with his dear wife Dianna. He also enjoyed spending time with his daughter Hilary. They traveled, shared culinary delights especially around the San Francisco Bay Area, especially Dim Sum. In addition to his deep appreciation for luxury automobiles and high fashion, he also loved to watch tennis, basketball and old westerns on television. His passion for music, (Jazz) and the arts (dance) was quite extensive, and yet he loved to sketch and collect his favorite characters Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Schroeder.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Rachel Byrde, son, Harold Hilton Byrde, Jr., brother, Gerald Byrde, nephew John Byrde and former sister-in-law Jana Byrde. Those left to treasure his memory are his wife Dianna Sebastian Byrde, daughter Hilary Byrde, of Richmond, CA, his brother, Reginald Byrde, of Adelaide, Australia, sister-in-law Rosene Chapman-Byrde, of Henderson, NV, and Margaretta Byrde, former spouse, of Richmond, CA and a host of colleagues, friends and associates around the world.
Harold will be missed for his awesome storytelling, creative eye for design and irrepressible spirit. At his request, no public services were held.
