Isaac was born in New York City, New York on October 30th 1958. he graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Geology. Our brother Isaac was a lifelong public servant. He worked for the Broward County Solid Waste, was a Firefighter in Osceola County, station 71. In 1998, he moved back to New York where he served as NYPD police officer for twenty years at the 49th precinct. A beloved uncle, Isaac was also a father figure to his many nieces and nephews. A kind and generous man, he was always eager to help others, and was incredibly thoughtful- especially with gifts. He loved baseball (an avid Mets fan) and coached several teams, including the NYPD baseball team. he was also a numismatist and enjoyed collecting coins from all over the world. He was always of good humor and brought laughter to his friends and family. Isaac is survived by six brothers and sisters, Miriam, Danilo, Nilda, Rudy, Patricia and Nina. We would fondly remember Isaac as a caring son a loving brother and a loyal friend. His contagious laugh will never be forgotten! WE LOVE YOU ISAAC!

My Name is Jose Vazquez, I am currently the President of the NYPD Baseball Team and a team member since 1994. In 2003, Isaac came out, to tryout for our team, a very competitive team with all college and former pro players. So the task, was not an easy one for Isaac, who was older then most of the guys trying out. In my 27 years I never met someone so humble, so dedicated and such a hard worker. Most of all, Isaac loved the game and loved his teammates. Isaac, never complained and was always the first at the field, willing to do whatever it took to help the team. Isaac, is the first member of our Baseball Family that we have loss and I am utterly heartbroken. We Will Never Forget! Isaac’s #14 will be retired and never will be worn again. We will also wear a Memorial Patch with his initials in the 2022 season. Isaac, you will be missed, but your memory will live forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace #14, Isaac Mercado. 💙👮♂️⚾️

Isaac was a friend of mine through the job in NY, he was a selfless man who was always happy, helpful, charismatic and a pleasure to be around. ✨Meeecaaaarrrrddddoo”” is how I always called out his name every single time I saw him even if I saw him every day on patrol then to my random pop ups at the “4-0”.
I remember our last conversation of Mecardo asking me how I like the ceremonial unit, he said I probably shoulder out a lot of cops, he said one day I’ll be carrying him out- I said you’ll live forever Mecardo, stop it! We laughed! Didn’t think forever would end so soon.
Sleep in Peace Mecardo, it was a pleasure to had experienced your humble, kind, gentle demeanor to your heartfelt hugs, your smiles.
My deepest condolences to the Mercado Family; I am sorry for your loss!

Dear Mercado Family;
I’m deeply saddened by this news and your loss. My condolences to you all. Isaac was a good friend of mine since 2006. I am in shock as I just heard of this by searching the Internet since I couldn’t reach him by phone. I was planning a visit to spend some time with him but wondered why his phone was disconnected. You all should know, he loved his family and was so proud of his nephew. He done so highly of you all.
He was such a good soul.
A kind hearted man and I’ll never forget him.
So sorry you had to go my friend. 😢
Fly high and rest in perfect peace ♥️🙏🏼 ~ Rae
