It is with sorrow and much love we mourn the passing of C. Roy Bergey, 81, of Ft. Lauderdale, who was called home to Jesus Nov. 5, 2021. Roy was a legend in the Marine Industry since 1961 beginning with Teleflex then onto representing many of the major boat and marine-engine and generator manufactures throughout the years. From that first encounter at the Chicago Trade Show with Teleflex ,he continued that impressive and varied carrier that carried him though many bold enterprises and adventures making friends all along the way carrying on his trademark charm, joy, and enthusiasm with the likes of Kainer Highstyles, Chrysler, Lurs, Marine Business -including United Marine Publishing with Sail and Motorboat magazines, Volvo Maine drives, Tollycraft, Trojan Yacht , Topaz, Beede Electric, finally retiring as RB Grove rep for Westerbeke Generators in 2020. With each job, came stories of renown along with antics and fun had. Every memory triggered a Story. One of his favorites was the telling of how he saw Disneyland in Florida come out of the ground as he was the man sent to help design and install the portholes in the Captain Nemos’ Submarine ride.
Other activities include membership of NJ Ski Club as he was an accomplished skier, Conquering Mountain tops like a goat with wind in his beard. Must have been part of his Swiss-German heritage. His interest in diving began as a young man when he became part of the Telford Diving Unit who wore Hard Hats as part of gear for the search and recovery of bodies in the stone quarries of Upper Bucks County, PA. About the same time, he also raced in small hydroplane boats on the rivers in the area. The joy and experience he had with that set him as a natural to be part of the Ocean Racing team for Donzi when he went to work for them. Love of speed and motion continued with love of motorcycles and race cars. The love of Motorcycles eventually led to his joining the Gold Coast Beemers with his wife, Linda, as they road together touring the Eastern Seaboard, Key West to Maine and varies spots in-between on various BMWs.
Roy sometimes referred to himself as a “Saltwater Cowboy” having been raised on a farm in Perkasie, PA, riding his horses and even attending the local Rodeos before venturing into Marine Business, fulfilling his love of the sea. It was a true insight to the man as he even went as far, one year, to have a pair of his cowboy boots resoled with boat shoe soles so he could wear them to the boat show and walk aboard the boats without having to take his boots off. Typic Roy. A joyous jokester yet respectful of those he worked and lived with and for at the same time.
On a more private note, Roy was a very spiritual man, believing it was his God given duty to help whoever came his way whatever way he could. As his wife, I never knew who he was bringing through the door for a good hot meal, or lending his car to do shopping as their boat was stuck at end of street due to a storm that had set in and of course, get a meal while they were here. He was man who took the commandment, “Love thy neighbor” to heart and did so. Although most acts were done privately, he took great joy in assisting in the functions, committees, and actives with his Church family at Davie United Methodist Church and later the brothers he acquired be becoming a member of Oceanside Emmaus Group.
A bold gregarious man who lived life large from ocean racing with Donzi, riding his BMW along USA highways, and an active member of Davie UMC he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Ganary-Bergey. Roy’s children include Daughter Wendy W., her husband Scot Pendleton; Roy’s’ son Wayne Bergey, his wife Michelle Gross from which there are five grandchildren: William, Scott, his fiancé Heather Gray and Kevin Bergey. Benjamin & his wife Ashley Pendleton and Sarah Pendelton Sutter followed by the delightful Great-grandchildren: R.J. and Cora June Pendleton, Thomas and Emmet Sutter, and Lillian Robbins (Bergey) along with many fun-loving Nieces and Nephews such as Jessica and Derek Ganary to just name a few.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Davie United Methodist Church, 6500 SW 47th St. Davie, FL 33314 (Just off Davie Road) on Sat. Nov 27th, 2021 at 10:30 AM, with Church Service at 11 AM and small graveside service at the Evergreen Cemetery at 1300 SE 10 Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL

Roy had a great soul. He was never too busy to stop and pray with you. Roy was one of those guys who was a true believer that real men love Jesus. I was very blessed to get to know this amazing man. He made sure to live life to the most every day.

A kind man who always had great conversation. I still miss him at the boat shows and often think about his friendly persona.
May God Bless him and welcome Roy into his kingdom.
