With a heavy heart we announce the peaceful passing of Norma Picou on Sunday, December 19, 2021. She is survived by her three children, Michele (Mark), Charles (Gisela) and Elizabeth – “Lili”, and two grandsons, Joshua and Jaxon.
Norma was born in British Guiana (Guyana) and is the 3rd youngest of eight children. She graduated from the University College of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, Jamaica with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English, Latin and French. She also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Library Studies and had over 19 years combined working experience as a Senior Librarian at the Main Library (UWI, Jamaica) and the John F. In 1979, she was appointed as the Library Director at the U.S. Embassy in Trinidad where she not only performed general library services, but more importantly, she assisted high school students applying to US colleges and curated several art and book exhibitions, highlighting local artists.
She will be fondly remembered and missed greatly by all her family and friends.
An online memorial remembering and celebrating Norma will be held at a later date.

Rest in Paradise Aunty Norma. You were always our most fashionable aunt. We have fond memories of the Picou New Year’s Eve parties in College Common, Jamaica where you were a supreme host. We treasured the times hanging out with Lili, Charles, Michelle, you and Uncle Dave in both Trinidad and Jamaica, including at University Beach in St. Thomas, JA. You were generous, a comforting presence and always, always, ALWAYS, stylish. You will be missed by all of us.
