I don’t remember much of Sue in my younger years, but was introduced to her as a young adult when she learned I was looking for work and introduced me to an opportunity as a receptionist at her job with the University of Miami. As it turns out, the job was not meant for me in the long term, but Sue took me under her wing during my short time there and did what she could to make the office feel like home.
When we reconnected at family gatherings years later, I always enjoyed talking with her about our joint love for the family’s history and creative writing. I never had the opportunity to read her story, but I still have hope that I may have the great honor to read her words one day.
Sue was also a very talented artist. I have pictures of the artwork she created that hangs in Aunt Ann’s home in Ocala and am in awe of all the talent and intelligence she possessed.
I recently had the opportunity to apologize to Sue for my shortcomings in the receptionist position all those years ago, and Sue was not only forgiving, but quite understanding and compassionate as she always was in her dealings with me. I loved her very, very much and despite not having memories of her in my youth, I am so very glad and grateful that we were able to connect and grow closer as I matured.
Rest in Peace, Sue. Thank you for sharing your interests, joy, passions, concern, love, and joy with me. It will all be forever cherished.
