Lys Cadet

March 30, 1934~August 26, 2022

Lys Cadet was born to the late, Pauléus Duversseau and Anasta Cadet, a speculator, deputy, Mayor and merchant/homemaker, in the commune of Cavaillon, on March 30, 1934.

Lys Cadet completed his preliminary studies in Cavaillon. He later attended the vocational school, “Ecole Profetional des Cayes”. Upon completion of his studies, he became an accomplished tailor, a trade that would later serve well in Nassau, Bahamas, after he traveled there from Haiti, in April 1967. Prior to his departure, he served under the leadership of his father as a speculator in a flourishing coffee industry in the regions of Bonnefin, and Biston.

Approximately two years later, in 1969 he immigrated to the USA and lived in NYC, making a living as an entrepreneur while providing financial support to his three children left in Haiti.

Following a short stay in the Borough of Manhattan, he settled with the late, Alice Maturin, a childhood friend, native of Cavaillon, for approximately 15 Years.

In 1992, he joined the SDA church and married Aline Thomas, an SDA church member.

After he sold a yellow taxi medallion in 1976, he attempted some new business ventures in Haiti in the areas of construction materials transportation, international money transfers and electrics. Gaining traction in Haiti proved more difficult than he could have imagined. He was compelled to returned to NYC where he began a career in the hotel industry until his retirement in the late 1990s. Not wanting to sit idle, he became involved in the school bus industry for 7 more years well into his 70s.

Prior to leaving Haiti, he had three and only children. He fathered a daughter with Adrienne Berette; Collette Cadet and a son with Amelianne Ceneacque; Pierre Andre Cadet, and another son; Marc Cadet, with Erta Bertrand, with whom he tied the knot in 1965.

In his lifetime, he transitioned from Catholicism to free masonry, to the SDA church. He became a devoted SDA church member of Bethanie French speaking SDA church of Brooklyn. He remained dedicated to that same service in the state of Florida where Hermon had its inception in the mid 90s.

In Florida, he spent the better part of his old age with his late wife, Aline Thomas, who died in 2016. In 2017, shortly thereafter, he married Michelle A. Lafontant.

Lys Cadet loved music and enjoyed crunching numbers. In his younger days, he founded a band called Alegria and was an avid accordion player. Later in his fifties, he acquired a saxophone and devoted himself to constant daily rehearsals. In his heyday, he would often be seen sitting at his desk for a prolonged span of time with a pen and a notepad as though he were an accountant. Lys cadet will be missed by his family members and friends.
