Robert (Bob) W. Smelser, Jr. passed away March 25, 2023 at Westside Hospital due to complications with his health.  Bob was proud to carry his fathers name as a Junior. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Annette Smelser Barfield, he would always repeat, “I only have one daughter”, his three grandchildren: Chelsea Nicole Millwood, Justin Wesley Barfield, and Jacob Daniel Barfield.  

In addition, he was also a great-grandfather of six grandchildren: Finely Grace Millwood, Miley Belle Millwood, Mac Millwood, Hunter Wesley Barfield, Ezekiel James Barfield, and Lucas James Barfield.  His beloved sister, Sandy Smelser Griffin, from St. Petersburg, Florida is also survived with her sons: Steven R. Laing and John C. Griffin and their children: Ashbey Morgan and Connor Griffin.

Bob served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1961-1969 and was discharged at MacDill AFB in Hialeah, Florida in 1969. He then began a 35 year career with the Florida Power & Light Company where he retired in 2004 in Plantation, Florida.  

Bob had a sensitive soul and found a way to continue to serve to the public. His retirement years began volunteering hours to City Parks and Recreation and Clean Beaches Program where he continued to receive awards for his dedication and service.  

Everyone that knew Bob knew his love for Fords.  He has a remarkable collection that he was proud of.  He also had a talent for collecting memorabilia.  Genres such as: Movie Stars, Music, Stamps, Model die cast cars. He loved life and lived it well.  Love $ Peace.

Urn committal was held on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines, Florida with honors rendered by the United States Air Force.
