EGÜES, Migdalia “Meg” (Ferrer), age 86, formerly of North Bergen, New Jersey and Fomento, Cuba passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. She was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, community volunteer and friend who loved to help those in need. As a young mother, she was a leader in the PTA at Horace Mann Elementary School and also served as a Den Mother in the Cub Scout Pack at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church both in North Bergen, NJ. After moving to Fort Lauderdale in 1973, she volunteered as an ESL teacher in the Broward County School System and became an active member at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church. At St. Jerome’s, Migdalia was a member of the choir, volunteered at the annual fair, and was active in the Cursillo Movement. She was a graduate of La Escuela Civica Militar la Tecnológica de Santa Clara; a girl’s boarding school in Cuba where she majored in home economics and played on the volleyball team, prior to immigrating with her family to the United States. While her talents were many, her greatest passion was raising her three sons, and she was also keenly interested in her nieces and nephews; always eager to listen and share a word of advice and encouragement. Later in life, she took great pride in the accomplishments of her sons and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. After her husband Rafael retired, Migdalia enjoyed traveling with him throughout the United States, Europe, South and Central America and the Caribbean.
She was predeceased by her parents Eloisa and Abelardo Ferrer, two sisters, Alicia Morgado and Ester Rodriguez, and two brothers George and Abelardo Ferrer. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rafael; son Rafael and his wife Diana, son Carlos and his wife Ana, son Jorge and his wife Barbara Anne; nine grandchildren, Kristen, Rafael, Tony, Diana, Mario, Richard, Daniel, David, and Katelyn, five great granddaughters Juliana, Milania, Daniela, Valentina, and Sofia, and by her sister Eloisa Minguez and her brother Hugo Ferrer, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
