June Patricia Hazel Edwards, a beacon of love, acceptance, and generosity, passed away peacefully from natural causes on November 24, 2023, at Broward Health North Vitas Center. She was born on June 4, 1935, in Princess Town, Trinidad, West Indies, to Samuel (deceased), a pipefitter, and Gladys (deceased), a homemaker. June was the beloved sister of Hyacinth, Ermine, Janice, Sylbert (deceased), Yolande, Selwyn, and Valerie.
Educated at Morvant RC and Hayes High School, June excelled in mathematics, sewing, crocheting, hairdressing, cooking, and baking. She transferred these skills into her career as a teacher and banker.
June was the loving wife of Kelman B. Edwards (deceased), whom she met in Morvant, Trinidad, where they both lived. She was the proud mother of Iden Kenneth Edwards and Aine Suzette Edwards George. June was also the mother-in-law of Ann Edwards and Damian George, adored grandmother to Akil, Jamil, and Khalil, and great-grandmother to Aden, Braden, Jeremiah, and Ethan.
June was a vibrant masquerader, avid traveler, and lover of arts and crafts. She was a valued member of the West Indian American Day Carnival Association and a dedicated Sunday school teacher. Her love for calypso music, concerts, and dancing was infectious. Known for her humor, honesty, humility, kindness, and maternal warmth, June had an open-door policy, embodying the essence of hospitality. She was the trailblazer for her family’s emigration to the United States, running the “Underground Railroad.”
Her legacy will be remembered at a viewing on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 5-8 PM, and a Funeral Service on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11 AM at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.
For those unable to attend the service, the family is offering LIVE streaming of the Service on Saturday, December 2, 2023 beginning at 11:00 AM. The link to attend the LIVE SERVICE is on the Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care Facebook page at: BOYD-PANCIERA FAMILY FUNERAL CARE
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor June’s memory by continuing her unconditional love, acceptance, and tradition of generosity.
