Hector Manuel Barrera

November 08, 1956~November 19, 2023

Hector Manuel Barrera passed away on the morning of Sunday, November 19th, 2023, at his Florida vacation home. A place he traveled frequently with his beloved wife of 10 years, Natacha Umlauf-Barrera.

Born on November 8th, 1956, in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, with 6 brothers and sisters; Hector and his family moved to the United States as a child. As an early graduate from Bel Air High School, he joined the United States Marine Corp. and then graduated from the University of Texas – El Paso in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Hector was loved for his lighthearted but serious approach to life, as he truly enjoyed the simple things: he was an avid cyclist, enjoyed fly fishing with his friends Glenn and Neil, watching sports with his kids, grilling his famous lamb, catching the newest movie in theatres, traveling to new places with Natacha, and being able to help anyone he could.

Hector is survived by his wife, Natacha, and three children from his first marriage: Matthew, Eric, and Ryan. Also survived by Rafaela Abascal, Emma Labrado, Ruben Barrera, Alfonso Barrera, Gloria Barrera-Smith, and preceding him; his Mother Maria Del Socorro Barrera, father, Rafael Barrera, brother Otillio Barrera and Gerardo Barrera.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.

He was a great man, friend and brother-in-law. He was loved by many and will be missed. I am grateful that I got to spend some time with him and Natacha last year at their beautiful vacation home. He was always kind to me and treated me with respect. He was also a very generous and helpful person. When I was with him we were always working on things. Much love and condolences to Natacha and his children. Sorry I have not called. Since Adrian’s death I find it very hard to talk with people at times like this. I’m thinking of you all, though.

Hector was such a wonderful, kind-hearted person. I am so saddened by this loss and feel lucky to have known him. Not only was he great to work with and always made sure the office ran smoothly, but he genuinely cared about all of us. I remember several times leaving work after a snow storm only to come out and find that he had brushed the snow off of our cars for us. Those little things meant so much and showed what a kind person he was.
My deepest condolences to all of his family and friends. I hope that the good memories bring you some comfort during this time.

Hector was such a great person, he will forever be missed and never forgotten. My heart hurts as he was father figure to me, he often times had looked out for me more than my own family. This is how I know he was the definition of a great man. From risking his own life to fight for our freedom, to giving you the shirt off of his back, Hector would bend over backwards to help anyone in need. He had looked out for me more times than I could count and without ever wanting anything in return, would not hesitate to lend an ear and offer his advice. He was the most sincere and genuine person in everything that he did, so much so, that I hope I can be at least half the man he was. He is one of the best people I have ever met, and I will forever mourn his passing. My prayers go out to his family as I can’t imagine their significant loss. May the good Lord bring them peace in knowing Hector will forever watch over them, as he always has

I’m shocked that my good friend Hector is gone. So young. I’ve known Hector since grade school, and thru our High School years. We made many stories together, and they will never be forgotten. Great person and friend. May I extend my condolences to you and the entire family.

I was very shocked to hear the news that Hector passed. Even though I didn’t get to send at alot of time with my Godfather in person I enjoyed our conversations on social media. Thank you for always being kind, positive and happy in our conversations.
