In loving memory of Beverly Lewis Kirkpatrick (1946 – 2024)
Beverly Lewis Kirkpatrick, a cherished mother and devoted wife, departed this world on May 19, 2024, leaving an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her family.
Born on April 28, 1946 in Mineral Ridge, OH, to Russell and Eleanor Lewis, Beverly was raised in a household filled with love alongside her biological siblings, Rosalyn and James, and her informally adopted sister, Violet. After graduating from Mineral Ridge High School in 1963, Bev (as she was fondly called by many) pursued her passion and talent for creativity at Ohio State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1968. Her career path was as diverse as it was successful, spanning from interior design, to teaching at a public high school, to co-authoring numerous editions of AutoCAD, a computer-aided design textbook. While working in various positions, Bev’s eye for beauty, attention to detail, and work ethic were neverending.
Above all else, Beverly was a loving mother who fiercely wanted the best for her children. She is survived by her children, Christina Mikkelsen and J.C. Johns and their spouses, Viktor Mikkelsen and Jessica Johns, as well as five granddaughters (Synnove and Laura Mikkelsen; Addison, Samantha and Elisabeth Lewis Johns). Her children were the center of her universe, and she selflessly prioritized their needs throughout their upbringing. Beverly is also survived by her loving husband, James (Mike) Kirkpatrick and his children, Amy Barnard and Kelly Beth Stockburger, and their husbands, Jack Barnard and Scott Stockburger, as well as seven additional grandchildren (Jonathan, Luke, and Tessa Barnard; Baxter and Clementine Stockberger; Sam and Calahan Gustafson) and six great grandchildren (Kinley, Wade, Wells, Brooks, CJ and Naomi Ann). She was predeceased by her step daughter, Karol Gustafson.
Mike and Beverly’s union in 1985 marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership filled with camaraderie and mutual respect. Together, they cherished moments in Las Vegas, on cruises, collaborated on numerous literary projects including a children’s book about monarch butterflies, cared for their beloved Afghan hounds, and simply reveled in each other’s presence. Whether home in Garland, TX or Port St. Lucie, FL, on a walk, visiting family, or on an adventure, they were each other’s best friends.
Bev was both a worrier and a playful soul. She loved to laugh and snuggle her kids and grandkids tight. She loved to solve puzzles and couldn’t wait on surprises. She cared about history and had a heart of gold for the underdog. She will be remembered in the beautiful furniture, jewelry, and dolls she worked so hard to keep, in the quilts and sheets she stitched, in the Monarch butterflies she loved to welcome to her garden, and when finding joy in making and creating.
Beverly’s final resting place will be alongside her parents and sister at Mineral Ridge Cemetery, following cremation by Boyd Panciera Family Funeral Care. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever endure in the hearts of those she touched. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation, please donate to your favorite charity in her name.
