Raquel Vasquez, 80, from Weston, Florida, peacefully passed away on August 13, 2024, surrounded by her daughter and immediate family after health complications.

Raquel was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to the late Francisco Hernandez Gonzalez and Ana Mercedes Cabrera de Hernandez on August 13, 1944. At 17, Raquel moved to New York in 1961, establishing a family and starting her successful 36-year career with American Airlines in various departments.

Raquel’s love for her family and friends was boundless. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Wendy (Vasquez) Sarmento, son-in-law, John Sarmento, and her two cherished grandchildren, Kayla Sarmento and Jordan Sarmento. She leaves behind two devoted sisters, Hulda Schooley and Dorcas Hernandez, and two nieces, Damaris Ortiz and Priscila (Ortiz) Listchinn, and great-nephew, Jeffrey Perez and his children, and many other family members and friends. Raquel was preceded in death by her brothers Benjamin Hernandez, David Hernandez, Abiatar Hernandez, and Francisco “Frankie” Hernandez, a sister Rebeca (Hernandez) Ortiz, and nephew Anthony Jimenez, whose memories were held dear.

Raquel was deeply passionate about music. During her young adult years, she was a member of a music group and played the clarinet, saxophone, and clavietta. She had a strong love for children and supported multiple charities. Raquel also adored traveling and spending quality time with her family, especially her two grandchildren, and she enjoyed watching telenovelas. She was always eager to share stories from her past with her family and friends. Her journey was characterized by her unwavering strength and profound love for her family and friends. Her kind and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on those around her, a legacy that will be remembered and cherished. Raquel had a deep faith in God and relied on His Sovereignty.

A Memorial Service for Raquel will be held at Boyd-Panciera Funeral Home and Chapel, 1600 N University Drive, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024, on 8/31/24 at 4:00 P.M. The service will celebrate Raquel’s life and enduring spirit.

Raquel Vásquez, 80 años de edad, de Weston, Florida, falleció pacíficamente el 13 de agosto del año 2024, después de complicaciones de salud, estando rodeada de su hija y otros familiares.

Raquel nació en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, hija de Francisco Hernández González y Ana Mercedes Cabrera de Hernández, el 13 de agosto del año 1944.

A los 17 años, Raquel se mudó a Nueva York en el año 1961, estableciendo una familia y comenzando su carrera de 36 años con American Airlines en varios departamentos.

El amor de Raquel por su familia y amigos no tenía límites.

Le sobreviven su amada hija, Wendy (Vásquez) Sarmento, su yerno, John Sarmento, y sus dos queridos nietos, Kayla Sarmento y Jordan Sarmento. Deja dos devotas hermanas, Hulda Schooley y Dorcas Hernández, y dos sobrinas, Damaris Ortiz y Priscila (Ortiz) Listchinn, un sobrino nieto, Jeffrey Pérez y sus hijos, y muchos otros familiares y amigos. Raquel fue precedida en la muerte por sus hermanos Benjamín Hernández, David Hernández, Abiatar Hernández y Francisco “Frankie” Hernández, una hermana Rebeca (Hernández) Ortiz y sobrino Anthony Jiménez, cuyos recuerdos eran muy queridos.

Raquel era apasionada profundamente a la música. Durante su juventud, fue miembro de un grupo de música y tocaba el clarinete, el saxofón y la clavieta. Tenía un gran amor por los niños y apoyó a múltiples organizaciones benéficas. A Raquel también le encantaba viajar y pasar tiempo de calidad con su familia, especialmente con sus dos nietos, también disfrutaba viendo telenovelas. Siempre estaba dispuesta a compartir historias de su pasado con su familia y amigos. Su vida se caracterizó por su fuerza inquebrantable y profundo amor por su familia y amigos. Su naturaleza amable y compasiva dejó un impacto duradero en quienes la rodeaban, un legado que será recordado y apreciado. Raquel tenía una profunda fe en Dios y confiaba en Su Soberanía.

Un servicio conmemorativo para Raquel se llevará a cabo en la Funeraria y Capilla Boyd-Panciera, 1600 N University Drive, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024, el 8/31/24 a las 4:00 p.m. El servicio celebrará la vida de Raquel.
