Steven J Loupee, 74, of Hollywood, Florida, passed away on September 8, 2024.

Steven was born on January 12, 1950, in Newton, Iowa to Loren and Naomi
(Achtermann) Loupee. He graduated from Newton High School and went on to the
University of Iowa where he received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in physical
therapy. Steven was a long-time member of the American
Physical Therapy Association, from whom he won the Mary McMillan award for his
master’s thesis. He worked as a physical therapist in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin
for over 40 years. Steven was a sports fan, and especially loved his Iowa Hawkeyes
and Minnesota Twins.

Steven loved sports and the outdoors. In high school he played basketball, football and
ran track; and won the high hurdles in the Drake Relays. He enjoyed playing golf and
caddying in tournaments for his wife of 33 years, Maria Sera. Steven was very proud of
his college summer job as a Park Ranger in the Grand Tetons National Park. He loved
hiking, canoeing, sailboarding, skiing, cycling— all things outdoors. Steven and Maria
made their home in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota for 34 years before retiring in
Florida. Steve was a kind, funny, and gentle man who will be missed every day by his
family and many friends.

Steven is survived by his wife, Maria Sera; mother-in-law, Haydee Sera; sister, Beth
Campbell; sister-in-law, Gipsi Sera (Utpal Bhattacharya); nieces, Alison Campbell (John
Rentschler), Joy Bhattacharya; nephews, Peter Campbell (Lacey), Michael Kaderabek
(Molly Glassey); great-niece, Finley Campbell, and many cousins including Newton
native, Melissa Broderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Naomi Loupee, and his father-in-
law, Segundo Sera.

An urn committal will take place at Newton Union Cemetery at 1:30 pm on Saturday,
October 19. Reception will follow at the Cobblestone Inn & Suites, 4222 S. 22nd Avenue
E, Newton, Iowa.  Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Boyd-Panciera
Family Funeral Care in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Wallace Family Funeral Home in
Newton, Iowa.
