Jean Lois Gervais

December 11, 1943~October 03, 2024

Jean Gervais was surrounded by family when she passed away at the age of 80 on October 3, 2024. She lost the battle against kidney disease. She leaves behind Edgar (her husband of 56 years), Sheri and Christine (her daughters); Joe (her son-in-law); Stephen and Alex (her grandsons); Bob (her brother), and Craig (her nephew).

Jean especially loved her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed traveling all over the world with her family. Her beautiful scrapbooks she crafted were cherished and she would often take out to reminisce.

Family and friends have tasted many of her delicious homemade goodies like her ‘no name’ pies, Sunday scones, and peanut butter chocolate chip squares (just to name a few).

Back in the 80s, she singlehandedly worked as a crossing guard, covering the busy intersection of Palm Avenue and Johnson Street. She took that job very seriously, making sure nobody crossed without her protection. That’s when she earned the nickname ‘Rambo’, which her husband and daughters had affectionately called her.

Jean also enjoyed working in her garden over the years. She would fearlessly chase off the invading iguanas that munched on her prized flowering beauties.

Jean was a caring soul and mentor. In her early years, she taught Sunday school at a Baptist church. She volunteered at her children’s local elementary school and became a Girl Scout troop leader.

I met Jean and her husband Ed and their two daughters Sheri and Christine on a cruise in 2019 as we were all on the same table every evening, and what a real pleasure it was to be in their company! Jean was a very caring individual and that really shone through. She had a real love of animals, often I thought getting too close to them!!

One particular story she said was when she was surrounded by bears and was in real danger – most people would try to escape as soon as possible but not Jean, she got her camera out and started photographing them!!!!

When I said “Why on earth would you wait around to do that?” she had tears of laughter when she thought about it!

Jean told many tales of the Iguanas swimming in her pool, and I am sure she is smiling now by the mere fact they have a mention in her obituary!

Much love to Jean, Ed, Sheri and Christine, your mother was and is amazing and it was a real pleasure to have known her.
