Barbara Jett Careccia

March 06, 1936~January 29, 2025

Barbara Jett Careccia, 88, of Bunnell, FL, and a longtime former resident of Miramar, peacefully passed away on January 29, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Manhattan, NY, to the late Leroy and Mildred Jett, Barbara was a kindhearted, humble, and caring woman who touched the lives of many. She grew up in New York, where she met the love of her life, Dominic, at a young age. They spent their time dancing, going to the movies, and sharing countless family gatherings. Their love story led to marriage in June 1957, after which they moved to Florida and made Miramar their home.

Barbara dedicated 25 years of service to Memorial Hospital, where she formed a cherished friendship with Donna. Together, they enjoyed traveling, yoga, belly dancing, movies, and dinners until Donna’s passing in 2022. That same year, Barbara also suffered the heartbreaking loss of her sister and her son—a grief from which her heart never truly healed.

An avid reader, Barbara adored James Patterson novels and loved solving crossword puzzles. Despite losing her sight two years ago, her daughter June ensured she could still enjoy books by providing her with hearing aids, allowing her to listen to over 1,000 audiobooks. Barbara and June spent precious time together solving crossword puzzles—June reading the clues while Barbara, with her sharp mind, supplied the answers.

Barbara’s final years in Bunnell were filled with love and laughter, surrounded by family and friends who adored her. She formed deep bonds with many, including dear friends Kev and Jen, whom she lovingly called her son and daughter. They made her feel incredibly special, even planning a memorable New Year’s Eve in Daytona with a hotel stay, dinner, music, and a ball drop celebration. That night, Barbara had the time of her life, even being featured in Thunder Roads biker magazine—an experience she cherished and one that will be published in their February issue.

Barbara was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Until we meet again, Mom—we love you.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dominic Careccia; her son, Dominic Lee Careccia; and her sister, Joan Scalafani. She is survived by her loving children, June C. Careccia Vasser (Rob), April Malabra (Ivan), and Chris Careccia (Brenda); her grandchildren, Cheryl, Janeen Leigh, Dominic, Lindsy, Laura II, Liza, and Noah; 12 great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Laura.
