My condolences to the family. He was my third grade teacher at St.Alberts in Michigan. He was the teacher that influenced me most in my life. He showed me the love for nature that I have held all my life. He had voluntary nature classes on Saturday’s that a lot of us attended. RIP Mr “O”

Mr. O was my third grade teacher 1971-2. A decade or more later, I understood what an influential educator he was. He brought nature into our classroom, literally. Seeing exotic plants and cacti – and learning where they came from – opened up the world. His love for animals and wildlife taught us to protect and care for God’s creation, and to treat living things with respect and compassion. Some of my greatest joys today are travel and fostering dogs for the Humane Society.
We lived right across the street from At Albert’s and he often parked his car in the rectory parking spaces next to our house. He had a Pontiac GTO. I remember this not just because I saw his car everyday, but because he said GTO stood for “Great ‘Teach’ Oz.” And he was.

Just last week I was talking to my husband about Mr. O and what a great teacher he was especially with bringing science to life in the classroom. His photography was so gorgeous and inspiring. Rest in peace.

I loved Mr. O! I had him for 3rd grade (1967-68) and never forgot him and what he taught us about nature and wildlife. I was even 1 of 4 kids, that won a nature hike to Milford, for my nature book.
He made me adventurous which has now brought me to many national parks.
I do own one of his books that he had published and treasure it.
I’m so sorry to hear he passed. May he rest in peace. 🙏❤️
