Obituario de Jorge Oquendo Negrón
En paz y rodeado del amor de su familia, Jorge Oquendo Negrón, de 88 años, partió al descanso eterno el 31 de enero de 2026. Nacido el 11 de agosto de 1937 en Ponce, Puerto Rico, su vida fue reflejo de felicidad, trabajo y amor familiar.
A los 19 años se unió al Ejército de los Estados Unidos, donde sirvió con orgullo durante seis años. Tras su servicio militar, trabajó como operador ingeniero, viajando con frecuencia entre Puerto Rico y los Estados Unidos para proveer y asegurar el bienestar de su familia.
En 1981, tomó la importante decisión de mudarse a Florida, buscando nuevas oportunidades sin perder nunca sus raíces boricuas. Puerto Rico siempre ocupó un lugar especial en su corazón, y mantuvo fuertes lazos con la isla a lo largo de toda su vida.
Jorge deja a su amada esposa Elena, con quien compartió 58 años de matrimonio, y a sus hijos, en orden de edad: Angel, Jorge Jr., Millie, Azer, Jorge Luis, Irving y Denise. También deja nietos, bisnietos y una familia extendida que lo amó profundamente. Para él, la familia siempre fue lo más importante.
Era conocido por su alegría contagiosa, su sentido del humor y su hospitalidad. Disfrutaba reunir a familiares y amigos, visitar el campo, bañarse en los ríos, hacer escapadas espontáneas de fin de semana y jugar largas partidas de dominó acompañadas de una cerveza bien fría.
Durante su retiro, encontró gran satisfacción en comprar y vender autos de subastas, una pasión que le permitió seguir trabajando con sus manos y compartiendo con la gente. Su carisma y facilidad para conectar con los demás le ganaron el apodo cariñoso de “Jorgevette,” reflejo de su talento natural para vender y su manera única de ganarse a todos con su simpatía.
Papá Georgie será recordado como un esposo devoto, padre y abuelo amoroso, proveedor incansable y un hombre que llenaba cualquier lugar de alegría y buen ánimo. Su memoria vivirá para siempre en su familia, en las historias compartidas y en las tradiciones que ayudó a construir.

El servicio de sepultura se realizará el 12 de febrero a las 9:30 a.m. en South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449.

Obituary for Jorge Oquendo Negrón
In peace and surrounded by the love of his family, Jorge Oquendo Negrón, 88, entered eternal rest on January 31, 2026. Born on August 11, 1937, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, his life was a reflection of joy, hard work, and deep love for his family.
At the age of 19, he joined the United States Army, where he proudly served for six years. After his military service, he worked as an operating engineer, frequently traveling between Puerto Rico and the mainland United States to provide for and support his family.
In 1981, he made the important decision to move to Florida, seeking new opportunities while never losing his Puerto Rican roots. Puerto Rico always held a special place in his heart, and he maintained strong ties to the island throughout his life.
Jorge is survived by his beloved wife, Elena, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, and his children: Angel, Jorge Jr., Millie, Azer, Jorge Luis, Irving, and Denise. He also leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a loving extended family. To him, family was always everything.
He was known for his contagious joy, sense of humor, and warm hospitality. He loved gathering family and friends, visiting the countryside, bathing in rivers, taking spontaneous weekend getaways, and playing long games of dominoes with an ice-cold beer.
During retirement, he found great joy in buying and selling cars from auctions, a passion that allowed him to continue working with his hands and connecting with people. His charisma and natural ability to connect with others earned him the affectionate nickname “Jorgevette,” reflecting his gift for sales and his unique way of winning people over.
Papá Georgie will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, tireless provider, and a man who filled every place with joy and good spirit. His memory will live on forever in his family, in the stories shared, and in the traditions he helped build.
Funeral Services
A private wake will be held on February 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, 1600 N University Dr, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024.
The burial service will take place on February 12 at 9:30 a.m. at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449.
