Yolanda Margarita Palma, aged 101, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, February 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in rural Cuba in the Oriente province, in 1924, to Miguel and Isidora. She had 8 siblings, 2 sisters and 6 brothers, all of whom preceded her in death. She always spoke of a very happy youth, loved and protected by her older brothers.
At age 20, she married Rafael Raul Palma, who preceded her in death, and by age 25 had 3 children: Raquel Del Monte, Magaly Hernandez, who preceded her in death, and C. Roberto Palma, MD.
The family emigrated to the USA in 1962, and lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Pasadena, California and Hollywood, Florida. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was always a voracious reader and was a very creative poet, writing many memorable poems on various topics throughout her life. She was also a self-taught fine seamstress who could design and make lady’s clothing from magazine photos custom-fitted to each customer by taking just a few body measurements.
She was a very spiritual woman, who had a ritual of “praying” every morning and every night for about half an hour of quiet time, during which she read the Bible and said many prayers. She would also “visit” and bless every one of her many descendants during this time of introspective meditation and she would pray for the sick and everyone going through rough times in their lives. Friends and family members were so convinced of the power of these sessions that they would frequently ask her to intercede in favor of those in need of support.
Her family and friends were always her highest life priorities. By all parameters, she lived a very long and very rich andt rewarding life.
A Visitation is to be held on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, located at 1600 N. University Drive, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024.
A Burial service will occur the following day on Friday, February 13th, 2026, at 12:30 PM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, located at 1500 S. State Rd 7, North Lauderdale, Florida 33068.
