March 06, 1932~August 24, 2026

Robert P. (Bob) Upshaw passed away peacefully at home on August 24, surrounded by love, with his devoted wife of 45 years, Grayce, by his side.

Born in Miami, Bob was a lifelong South Florida resident, later making his home in Pembroke Pines, Plantation and ultimately, Davie, Fl.

In his early years, Bob was an accomplished athlete, he attended Miami Jackson High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball. His athletic talent led to a signee contract with the Atlanta Braves before he was drafted into the U.S. Army.

Bob proudly served his country in Korea, earning several decorations for his military service.

Following his service, Bob enjoyed a long and successful career as a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local 349 where he worked in construction on many of the 30+ story buildings in the Miami skyline. During his electrical career, he was an avid sportsman who loved heading out on deep-sea fishing trips or spending time on the golf course.

He later went on to found and operate B&G Hardware in Fort Lauderdale—named for Bob and Grayce—which became a successful and beloved local store.

Above all else, Bob was a devoted family man. He and Grayce married in 1980, building a loving partnership and raising a combined family of six children whom they held dear.

Together, they built the kind of marriage many only dream of—full of laughter, hospitality, and adventure. They loved traveling, enjoying the outdoors, and throwing memorable parties for their wide circle of friends. Even in Bob’s final weeks, the two could still be found sharing a dance together.

Bob held a special place in his heart for his granddaughter, Lexi, with whom he spent countless hours solving jigsaw puzzles. His family also extends their heartfelt gratitude to his loyal and loving aide, Yami Castenada.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughters, Lori Upshaw and Kelly McClendon and his son Scott McClendon.

He is survived by his sons, Robert (Bobby) Upshaw, Douglas McClendon, and Lloyd McClendon; as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
