Ana Maria “Anita” Grant, age 92, of Pompano Beach, Florida, went home to her Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on May 14, 2023, and was welcomed by her late husband, Robert. Anita was born on August 25, 1930, in NYC to Mexican immigrant parents, Alfredo Segura and Ana Degollado. She shared her life with her late elder sister, Estelle, and late younger sister, Adela Josephine. At the age of 18, Anita married her first husband, Frederick Elder, after falling in love on the same block in the Bronx, NY. They raised their four children in New York before parting ways.
In 1977, Anita remarried Robert Grant in Connecticut before relocating to Florida. Together, they cherished the Florida sun, their dachshund, Chiquita, and visits from their family and friends. After the passing of her beloved Robert in 1991, Anita devoted the remainder of her life to her faith. She was an active parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, St. David Catholic Church and eucharistic minister at Assumption Catholic Church. She was also a devoted member of the Blue Army of Our Lady and the Secular Franciscan Order of St. Joseph Fraternity in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She believed that “God’s gift to us is our life – what we do with it is our Gift to God.”
Anita enjoyed Mexican food, thrift shopping, photography, chocolate, and spending time with her loved ones. She is survived by her loving children: sons Frederick Elder (Joanne), Brian Elder, Germaine Elder, and daughter Josanne Elder (Jim), her grandchildren, Heather (Michael), Kimberly, Kelly, Ricky, Michael, and Robert, as well as numerous cousins and extended family members from Mexico. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 23rd, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, 1600 N. University Drive Pembroke Pines Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, 200 N. University Drive, Plantation, FL followed by burial at Forest Lawn South in Davie, FL. Please join the family for Anita’s Celebration of Life gathering at 1401 S. Ocean Blvd., Pompano Beach, FL, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm to share memories and honor the life of their dear and beloved “Mamacita.”
In lieu of flowers, Anita requested that you issue a Mass card or make a donation to your favorite charity in her memory. The family recommends donations in her honor to Alzheimer’s/Dementia research.

Scott and I met you, Anna, for the first time, at the delightful 88th Birthday party Josie, Brian and Jim carefully crafted on your behalf. We only met again three times thereafter, celebrating life at your 89th, Christmas of 2019 and Fredβs 2020 Jan. Birthday. All I clearly recall each time, was your welcoming presence, and that of Josie and Brian, half Cousin of my honorable Husband of nearly 49 years, Scott. Having experienced a childhood NDE, with carefully studying other NDE stories for many years, I feel confident you are now basking in the glory of indefinable unconditional love. Godspeed, Kathy Elder
