November 13, 1925~April 04, 2021

Arthur Anthony Kalliche (Artie), age 95, died of natural causes on April 4, 2021, in Weston, Florida, after a life well lived. Artie was born in Plainfield, NJ to Panayiota (Nora) and Anthony Kalliche and spent his early years in Tarrytown, NY before moving to Poughkeepsie, NY. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1943 and soon enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He proudly served his country during World War II from 1943-1945. Upon his discharge, he attended Triple Cities College (then part of Syracuse University) in Binghamton, NY. In 1951, he began dating Helen Coclin and he soon realized she would be the love of his life. Artie and Helen were married in 1952 and the couple settled in Poughkeepsie. Life was good and became even better when their son Anthony (Tony) and daughter Olga were born. Their family was complete.

Artie worked with K & M Banana Co., the family banana import business, and later was a self-employed excavation contractor. Proud of his Greek heritage, Artie was an active member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church and helped manage its Helenic Center. A talented baseball player in his early years, he played on his college baseball team and was offered a contract with the NY Yankee minor league affiliate in Binghamton. He later became an avid golfer. Artie was a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants, and in the spirit of always supporting the local teams, became a loyal Miami Heat fan upon moving to Weston, FL in 2011.

Most important to Artie was his family. He would have been married to Helen 69 years this April 26th. Artie’s greatest joy in life was spending time with Helen, his two children, their spouses, and especially his four grandchildren, Kristin, Greg, Alexa and Eleni. Artie was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was an honorary “Papouli” and favorite uncle to many members of his extended family. He will be remembered for his love of cooking, his carving skills at family and holiday dinners, his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, independence and so much more.

A memorial/celebration of life service will be held over Zoom at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 18, 2021. Please email tony.kalliche@gmail.com by April 16th if you would like to attend. The link for the service will be emailed to you on Saturday, April 17th.

Jay and I are very sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of growing up in Poughkeepsie with our families sharing so many good times together. When I think of “Uncle” Artie, I think of that whole generation… they don’t make them like that anymore!
Love,

What a lovely heartfelt video for the service. Unlce Arrtie will be forever missed, I will always remember his kindness, family values and specialty cooking. I mostly saw Artie at Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and other family gatherings, he always had words of wisdom and a smile on his face. Some of my favorite memories are his famous meatballs, delicious ham, our sports conversations and his special bond with Hudson.

May his memory me eternal.

Love,

Chris
