October 15, 1929~August 15, 2025

Carmen C. Panchana, 95, of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025.

 Carmen, a devoted Catholic, was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on October 15, 1929. Although she was a teacher, principal, and lifelong educator, she chose to come to the United States in the early 1960s in pursuit of the American dream. From the moment she arrived, she dedicated herself to working hard in New York City’s garment industry.

Her unwavering dedication was always to support her family back home while raising a family in the United States—most especially her only son, Jackier—ensuring that he could benefit from the best education she and her husband, Felix E. Panchana, could provide.

She firmly believed that attaining the American dream meant laying the foundation for her son’s success, so that one day his wife, children, and future generations could enjoy the fruits of her labor. As she leaves this earthly life, her vision is taking shape.

Carmen’s passions were sewing and cooking. She strongly believed no meal outside the home could compare to a home-cooked one—especially her own. One of her most cherished qualities was her generosity; she was always eager to share what she had with those less fortunate. Even in her later years, she faithfully donated to numerous charities, often receiving a mailbox full of letters, each of which she carefully opened and read.

Carmen is survived by her son, Jackier Hurtado; daughter-in-law, Madeline; her two granddaughters, Jeannie and Madison; siblings; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Felix.

Funeral services will be held the morning of August 28, 2025, at Boyd Panciera Family Funeral Care in Pembroke Pines, Florida, followed by a 1:45 p.m. Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Doral, and interment to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, also in Doral.

I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my beloved Aunt Carmen. She was more than just family — she was a true light in my life, full of warmth, kindness, and love. An ally, I truly loved her for not judging me. I will always cherish the moments we shared and the love she gave so freely.
Her memory will live on and on in our hearts forever. May she rest in peace.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭34‬::18

Carmen was more than a family friend, she was a light of a generation that met up, ate together and was part of our family as well. She always had a wonderful smile and some fashion forward eye glasses. 💝. She lived to see you and the rest of the family achieve the American dream. So thank you for letting her see that.
