Charles (Alex) Fabien

November 05, 1968~March 20, 2019

In loving memory of Charles Alexis Fabien,

On the morning of Wednesday, March 20th at 6:20 am, the soul known to many of us as Alex, who shared so freely and graciously peace, joy, and love, left his envelope peacefully to merge once more with the light.   He leaves behind his loving wife Nadege and two daughters Chloe and Sophie Fabien.

A life-long embodiment of loving kindness, he was an inspiration for all on how to accept and face our earthly challenges, courageously and gracefully.

Alex was born in Gonaives, Haiti to Denise and Alphonse Fabien on November 5, 1968. He was a generous, loving son, and a dutiful and protective brother to his older sister Roseline.

Alex was often seen happily parading through the streets of Gonaives as a free spirit barefoot wearing only his Petit Bateau. He had a passion for beauty, the capacity to listen and understand. He always found the right words to lift up the spirit of anyone in need.

At age 11 he moved to Port au Prince and attended Saint Louis de Gonzague where he made a lifelong brotherhood of friends. Many described him as a down to earth, cool, yet intellectual guy. At age 15 he met his lifetime companion and devoted wife Nadege Chancy while she was vacationing in Haiti.  They went on to have two beautiful daughters Chloe and Sophie. He was their whole world, the light in their life.

Alex graduated from FIU with a degree in Mathematics. He worked as an interpreter for many years at Language LIne Services. In 2007 he transitioned to a successful career in Financial Services.

Throughout his short but impactful life,  he touched the hearts of many, be it a brief encounter or a lifelong friendship. He had an enduring  iconic smile that told us just how lucky he felt in life and love.

In the end, Alex showed us that being brave was not the absence of fear, but rather the strength to keep going forward despite the fear.

There will be a visitation Saturday from 1-6 with a Tributes of a Lifetime Service and Religious Service at 4:00 pm.  Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, 6400 Hollywood Boulevard Hollywood, Florida 33024.

Alex your smile could light up a room and your zest for life was infectious. You found joy in the simplest of things. You saw the good in everyone, and yet …..made us want to be even better. In your memory may we laugh more heartily, live more fully, love more deeply and quite simply …..just be the best that we can be. I will miss you my brother…….forever…. Carole

Dear Nadege, My wife Pam and I last met with you and Alex a few years ago at a hotel in the FL Keys. We are mutual friends with Patrick and Jo. Pam and I are most saddened by the news of Alex’s passing. Alex left an impression with me that few people do. I felt I could be good friends with Alex. He was so genuine and sincere. Just good vibes and feelings! Alex will be missed! Pam and I were preparing for our move from So FL to NC at the time we last met and I am sorry that I did not have the opportunity to get to know both of you better. You have many wonderful friends! I hope we may be counted among them. I’ll hope and pray to keep your face to the sun during these darker times. The love is there! Sincerely Yours, Aaron and Pam Rabin

Alex, I’m not sure when I last saw you. It must be over 15 years ago if not more. I see your picture and a memory comes up. I remember going to your house in Delmas 19 to eat some of the good food that Irene used to cook. I remember you driving this night blue Fiat, impossible not to recognize this big head. When you moved from Fontamara, I remember you coming back often to spend the day with us. You did the same thing in NY when you lived in Queens, you came up and spent the day with us in Spring Valley and we played some squash. When I went down to Florida, we went and played some tennis. That was years ago and I still remember. Alex you are one hell of a guy! You are resting in peace but we are overwhelmed by your departure. I’ve met Nadege years ago but don’t know your two daughters. My mom used to describe your dad as a very handsome guy ;). I know your mom and cannot imagine how both can deal with your departure following your sister’s. You came to France not long ago and I did not have a chance to see you one last time. I sent you a goodbye message because I did not have the courage to call you after Maurice told me that you were not doing well. You replied "Thank you Greg much love to you and your family". I know your family will have yet another proof of how great a person you are as you will be showered with love tomorrow. My last message to you "May the Lord bless you with all the love, comfort and strength he can set aside for one of his son. May he shine his brightest light within and around you". God bless your family Alex, God bless you. Thank you for your kindness. Goodbye Alex!!!! God bless!!!

It seems like only yesterday we were all teenagers, joking around and talking nonsense at Gardens of Kendall. The years have been long but the great memories are clear as a bell. We will always cherish those times brother, but most of all, we will cherish you for your love of others, sense of humor, compassion, integrity and so much more! You leave behind an incredible legacy in your children who will carry on all of your wisdom and many teachings. Your memory is etched in all of our souls and the simple thought of you will continue to make us smile each and every day. Rest in Love Brother ??????

Alex, What a gentle soul we have lost! I was just in your kitchen at that same spot we were the last time we were there together and you had me taste one of your new dishes. I miss you and I feel the weight of your absence. My only comfort lies in knowing that your pain is now gone and you have travelled to higher grounds. I will forever miss your smile and your always positive attitude and energy despite it all. You have embodied what a good human is and you have graced us if your presence and your contagious joie de vivre. You have left your imprint on my soul. You are one I will hold close and take with me always. Thank you for you and for your gift. Rest easy my friend. Rest easy ??

A beautiful soul indeed. Even though I came to know Alex through Nadege as an adult he made a deep impact on our lives. He was truly genuine and authentic. I will remember Alex always cheerful, extremely intellectual and soft spoken with a beautiful smile. He was able to make conversation easily about any subject. Always greeting me with a big smile and a kiss on both cheeks, a custom initially unfamiliar to me but now has become my own routine greeting. I especially will miss our conversations about food and cooking techniques as well as politics. Alex and I shared a passion for cooking. Alex was a fabulous cook and knew a lot about the food scene. He was well versed in current events both politically and internationally and I enjoyed very much our frequent conversations about the two. Alex and I shared a passion for cooking and good food and often exchanged recipes. Rest In Peace Alex. Your short time on earth showed us how to love deeply and broadly.

Tatie Denise, Nadege, Chloe and Sophie. My heart is with you as you go through this extremely difficult time. Even though I was not privileged to know my cousin Alex that well, growing up on two different ends of the world, by his smile and the testimony of others, I know what an incredible soul he was and what a loss this is. Please accept my deepest condolences and know that we are all with you for as long as you need!! Lots of love

May you rest in peace. Your good heart and your shining smile will be with us forever, constantly reminding us of what a beautiful soul you were. May God bless Nadege, Chloe, & Sophie, along with your mother, and keep them under his wings. Safe passage, my friend; Knowing was a privilege, & having you in my class as a student was definitely a blessing. I believe I learned as much from you, if not more, as you did in my class.
