Even with so many achievements, his greatest joy was his family. Charlie will be remembered for his humor, kindness, politeness, his love of this great country and most of all, his love for his family that he was always so proud of. He especially loved spending time supporting his 11 grandchildren in all of their endeavors, from golf tournaments and baseball games, to dance and cheer competitions, he was always there rooting them on!

From fishing trips in Treasure Cay to sunsets in Naples, and strolling down Hollywood Beach, Charlie couldn’t get enough of the water. He also made countless memories at the family ranch in Sarasota, Fla., where he soaked in the great outdoors hunting with his brother, Richard E. Nelson, who preceded him, as well as his loved ones.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Charlie will always be fondly remembered as, “Pops: The Man, The Myth, The Legend.”

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at Boyd Panciera Family Funeral Care on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with Prayer Service and Tributes of a Lifetime at 4:30 p.m., at 1600 N. University Drive, Pembroke Pines, Fla., 33024.

What an extraordinary father & mentor for all he touched. To the BEST! Love to all my Nelson kids who have blessed my life in & out of the classroom. You couldn’t have had a better mom & dad that knew the true meaning of FAMILY FIRST! They were always there for each of you with unconditional love. Cherish the memories. Thankyou Charlie. I am honored and blessed to have known you and worked with you for years under Bill Markham. You are kind, thoughtful, astute and funny always a sense of humor during the years of meetings and planning. Your experience and success surrounding politics, elections, money raising and strategy taught us; Prattski, Spiker, Miller, Sandy, Foss, Stafford and yes him too…William “Bill” so so much!
You truly are a blessing in my life and many many more who knew you. I will miss you Charlie.
God Blessed You. My condolences to the Nelson family.
