David M. Hlay, Jr, (95)  of Pembroke Pines died March 14, 2022.  He was born on September 12, 1926 in Claysburg, Pennsylvania to the late David and Bertha Hlay Sr.  At 21 years of age he started Trudy’s Ice Cream Concession in West Virginia which is still in operation today.  He is preceded in death by his wife Trudy who died in 2010 and they were married over 64 years. They moved to South Florida in the late forty’s where he served as the Chief Deputy Property Appraiser for 28 years.  Mr. Halay was active in his community where he is the last Founding Member of Pembroke  Pines and St. Stephens Catholic Church.  He is survived by children;  David, M. Hlay III, Stephen Hlay and his wife Monica, Marie Bergeron and her husband Donald. Two brothers; Joseph and Marty Hlay; Granddaughter; Sommer Dawn Bergeron Stevens. One grandson; David Michael Hlay IV and great granddaughter; Lexi Marie Bergeron Harday.  Visitation will be Thursday, March 18, 2022 at Boyd-Panciera Hollywood Chapel from 9:00AM-10:00AM,  followed by 10:30AM Mass at Stephen’s Catholic Church located at 2000 S. State Road 7, Miramar, FL 33023 .  A private family inurnment will take place at Hollywood Memorial Gardens where he will be placed with his wife.
