Obituary – Earlin Clement
Earlin Clement, also known as Linn C., was born on January 27, 1944, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, to Andrew and Elaine (Green) Clement. She was the youngest of four children: Ansel, Irwin, and Eilene (who passed away before Earlin’s birth). From the age of 12, she was a mother figure to her nephew Al George, who also lived with them. Earlin was born into a large, close-knit family. As a child, she always looked forward to the time she spent with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins at 15 Madras Street in St. James. As the youngest girl, she was treasured by her parents and older brothers. Earlin felt protected and “untouchable” when she went out with her brothers, and their time together was filled with laughter and smiles. She adored her parents. Her mother, Elaine, was oldest girl of eleven children, and she inspired and shaped Earlin’s great faith in God and Earlin’s love and appreciation of family. She also taught Earlin how to make bread and breadmaking became one of Earlin’s responsibilities in the family. Her father delighted in her, and she often said her world lit up whenever her father was near. Her father always had a wise saying for every situation, and he was known for his upbeat and positive nature. She always knew her father loved her unconditionally and expected nothing in return.
When Linn finished secondary school, her brothers were already living in London, England. At the age of 18, her brother Irwin sent for her to join them in London, and she left Trinidad to live with her brother Ansel and study broadcasting. Linn soon won a DJ contract to play at an ice-skating rink, and shortly thereafter, she began disc-jockeying for radio stations in London. Linn loved to travel. After living in London, she lived a year in Spain before moving to Canada where she met Ernest Chance who would become her husband.
Linn and Ernest were married in March 1969 in Toronto, Canada. While living in Toronto, they were blessed with their first child, Sean. They later moved to New York where they welcomed their second son and blessing, Paul. The family moved from New York to Arima, Trinidad in 1980 where they remained for about a year before moving to Miami, Florida in 1981. Linn and Ernest were married for 43 years.
Linn was a loving mother and grandmother, and she adored her sons whom she lovingly referred to as her “Staff – Sean” and her “Rod – Paul.” She had a special bond with her only granddaughter, Sydni, her travel partner. She affectionately called herself the “Uber driver” for her grandsons, CJ and Alexander, and she would pick them up after school and they would each take turns picking a restaurant for an after-school treat. She would always brag about what a gentleman her grandson Alexander is as he would arrange special “dates” for the two of them. She was proud of her grandson CJ’s love for music, and she never missed his concerts.
Linn’s “place of employment” (IYKYK ) was at the Miami-Dade Police Department for 30 years where she made life-long friends who kept her in the know. Linn never considered her place of employment to be work or a job. Linn had a smile that would light up the room. Her laugh was contagious, and she loved to dance. Linn had a great love for music, and she made sure it was always playing around her whether asleep or awake. She was a woman of great faith, and great wisdom. For almost forty years, Linn’s time at WAVS 1170 AM was her passion. She left her mark with Caribbean Sunday, a family-oriented program, a program with a difference — which combined her love for God, her love for music, and her love for family and allowed her to share that love with her listeners every Sunday morning from 6:30 am to 7:30 am. She embraced her listeners, and they became a part of the Caribbean Sunday family. Linn was one of the easiest people in the world to talk to, and her warmth and kindness led many to reach out to her for comfort and guidance, and she welcomed the calls at any time – day or night.
Linn was a woman of great strength. Throughout her lengthy battle with cancer, she demonstrated great strength of faith, great physical strength, and her doctors were amazed by her resilience and positive attitude. She was a living testimony. On April 24, 2024, God called home His angel, Earlin Clement. Linn will be remembered by her sons, Sean and Paul Chance, Stepson Henry Chance (pre-deceased); grandchildren: Sydni Chance, Sean “CJ” Chance, Jr., Alexander Chance, Elijah Chance, and Isaiah Chance; daughters -in-law: Pamela, Renee, Thea; Nieces and Nephews: Al Clement(fiancée Millie), Cheryl Clement, Sarah Clement, Colin Clement, and Sean Clement(Ruth); Godson Ainsley Ramdwar, sister-in-law Louise Chance Baxter (Iain), brother-in-law Leroy Chance (Susan), and a host of relatives and friends.

Earlyn – powerfully spiritual woman, accommodating, generous, with an air of royalty mixed with humility along with a memorable sense of humor stamped with her infectious laughter. ‘Trini to the bone’ she proudly carried her love for Trini culture wherever she was.
God bless her soul as she sings and converses with the Angels in Heaven. Our sympathies to Sean, Paul and her family.

Bless those who mourn, eternal God, with the comfort of your love that they may face each new day with hope and the certainty that nothing can destroy the good that has been given. -Vienna Cobb Anderson
I was always happy to see Lin and Paul at our Christmas parties and when she would drop by every few weeks. She always had a smile on her face and would talk about her next adventure. I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing, yet I take comfort in knowing that her good works will continue through all she touched. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

I had the pleasure of assisting with her healthcare at UHEALTH . I always admired her strength and wisdom. You will always be remembered for your gentle kindness and being so soft spoken. I’ve since relocated to another state and I must say I still reflect on the conversations we would have about your sons being your staff ….. the supervisor and so on. And the wisdom you bestowed upon me, Thank you! I’m forever grateful.
Rest well ,
